April 21, 2017 (San Diego) - On Saturday April 29th over three thousand San Diegans are expected to join the People’s Climate March (PCM) at the downtown Waterfront Park under the slogan “Healthy People, Healthy Communities, Healthy Earth”. They will call on local leaders to support a just and rapid transition to 100% clean energy and to oppose federal efforts to roll back climate policies that protect our families. The local march, organized by a coalition of environmental, social justice, labor, student, and faith organizations, takes place in solidarity with the People’s Climate Mobilization on the same day in Washington DC and hundreds of other sister marches around the country and the world. A bicycle valet will be set up to encourage participants to arrive by bike. The event will conclude with entertainment, information booths, a sign contest, and a kid zone with activities. 

April 20, 2017 (San Diego) -- The Invest in San Diego Families Coalition invites you to join a series of Town Hall meetings throughout the county to discuss the San Diego County’s $5.4 billion budget and how it can better serve communities. The ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties and other members of the Invest in San Diego Families encourage you to demand smart, impactful investment in San Diego and programs that will ensure more of its residents thrive.  A meeting in East County’s 2^nd Supervisorial district will be held on May 22^nd at La Mesa Methodist Church.

April 19, 2017 (Ramona) - The Oasis Camel Dairy in Ramona invites you to an open farm and show this Saturday and Sunday, April 22^nd and 23^rd.  The fun starts at 1 p.m. for an afternoon featuring friendly farm animals and curious camels. At 1:30 there’s an animal show featuring performing parrots, racing turkeys, working farm dogs and majestic camels.

April 18, 2017 (San Diego) – The San Diego Advertising Fund for Emergencies (SAFE) will host its annual fundraising party from 5 to 9 p.m. this Thursday, April 20, at the Karl Strauss Tasting Room and Beer Garden, 5985 Santa Fe St., San Diego. SAFE is a volunteer, non-profit organization providing confidential financial assistance to local advertising and marketing professionals and their families facing a life crisis emergency.

April 18, 2017 (La Mesa) – The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host “The Gift of My Life,” a free program on advance healthcare planning, from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 26. The program is part of the library’s “Wellness Wednesday” series, normally held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served. Advance RSVP is not necessary. Handouts will be available.

April 17, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) -- Are you prepared for a disaster? An earthquake or firestorm? Consider attending a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) academy. April 16, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – Each year, the U.S. Department of Justice and Drug Enforcement Agency holds a prescription drug take-back day to encourage residents to turn in unused prescription drugs and avoid having them fall into the wrong hands.  This year, the event will be held on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

April 8, 2017 (Lemon Grove) -- Right here, right now, in our town...tough though it is to think of Lemon Grove as a haven for human sex traffickers, it is. This heinous crime is alive in our town. Predators are after our girls and boys. This, in a town where every neighborhood is anchored by a public school and volunteerism has been a tradition since 1890.
