WWII INTERNMENT OF JAPANESE-AMERICAN STUDENTS AT GROSSMONT HIGH: NEW EXHIBIT AT LA MESA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

May 26, 2016 (La Mesa) – AP students at Grossmont High School recently researched Japanese-American students who attended Grossmont and the impact that the 1942 internment of program had on their lives.  Now the results of their efforts are on display in a special exhibit at the La Mesa Historical Society: May through September on the 2nd & 4th Saturday  from 1-4pm: “WWII Internment and the Japanese-American Students of Grossmont High School.”

“BROTHERS IN WAR” SCREENING MAY 28 IN LEMON GROVE

May 26, 2016 (Lemon Grove) -- The Lemon Grove Historical Society will be back in the Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane, on May 28 at 2 p.m. with part II of its remembrance of the Vietnam War.  The event honors our military on the Memorial Day weekend and is an opportunity to learn more about the war that many would prefer to forget, but that scarred an entire generation in both the U.S. and Vietnam.

May 26, 2016 (El Cajon ) -- The Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) K-9 Team plays a valuable role in locating missing people across San Diego County.  When he's not busy assisting Sheriff's Deputies and SAR Volunteers, Wishbone the Beagle loves meeting children.

Join Wishbone and SAR K-9 Team Leader Pam Medhurst for a special reading of a short book on this talented dog on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. in the Fletcher Hills Library (576 Garfield Ave., El Cajon).

In "Wishbone The Beagle: The Smell And Tell Game," we learn about Wishbone's special talents and how he became a member of the Sheriff's SAR K-9 Team. It's a story children of all ages will love.

SANTEE STREET FAIR AND CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL MAY 28

May 26, 2016 (Santee)--The Santee Street Fair and Craft Beer Festival draws over 30,000 visitors each year with patriotic fund for the whole family. The eight annual festival will be held this year on Saturday, May 28th from 10a.m to 6 p.m. at Riverview Parkway and Town Center Parkway in Santee. The festival will feature local breweries and honor the military on the Heroes Stage.

Festival highlights include: a craft beer festival, live music and entertainment, a crafter row and artist alley, over 300 food and vendor booths, carnival rides, and games for the family.

May 22, 2016 (San Diego) - Renowned San Diego artist and humanitarian, James Hubbell, is opening his hand-built, artistic mountain retreat home to the public for the annual Father’s Day Tour benefiting the Ilan-Lael Foundation Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Julian, Calif. For more than 50 years, the Hubbells have been building their art-inspired home and guests are invited to tour the iconic property’s eight main structures, including the art studios, the famous “Boys’ House,” and chapel, plus the first-ever chance to explore the near-completed Ilan-Lael Center. James, his wife Anne, and their family will also be greeting the public to share their inspirational stories and insights about the property.
