February 10, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) -- This week’s Destination East County includes some romantic options for Valentine’s Day, from sweet dessert and wine pairings  at local wineries to an alpaca ranch open house.

Plus we’ll have previews of coming attractions including Black history month events, a lute concert,  a bluegrass jam, and an open art studios tour.

February 4, 2016 (La Mesa) - The San Diego Bluegrass Society will hold its monthly jam at Fuddrucker's restaurant in Grossmont Center on Tuesday, February 16^th from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  The event includes open mic, pick up bands and the ever-popular musical jam session.

February 3, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) --This week’s Destination East County includes  a Native American pow-wow at Cuyamaca College,  an author speaking on how to cook for a very big crowd,  hawk watch, and a breakfast with Supervisor Dianne Jacob.

Plus we’ll have previews of coming attractions including some Valentine’s weekend events such as food and wine pairings. a Baroque music concert, plus open farm days at an alpaca ranch and a camel dairy!

February 1, 2016 (Lemon Grove) - On Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane, the Lemon Grove Historical Society will bring back Louise Mathews, the former 21-year Chief of Food Service for San Diego County Prisons. She'll bring her book, "Jail House Cuisine: From the Right Side of the Bars" and describe how to produce 40,000 meals a day.

January 30, 2016 (La Mesa) – the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club invites you to a Spring Tea fundraiser honoring four distinguished San Diego women. The honorees are Kathi Anderson, director of Survivors of Torture International, Bobbi Brink, founder of Lions, Tigers and Bears, Mimi Pollack, a writer for East County Magazine, and Estela de los Rios, executive director of CSA of San Diego County.  The tea will be held on Saturday, March 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Noah Homes, 12526 Campo Road in Spring Valley.

January 28, 2016 (El Cajon) -- The El Cajon Citizen of the Year Committee has selected Humbert Cabrera of El Cajon, founder of Cabrera and Associates, Inc., a design and drafting firm, as its 2015 El Cajon Citizen of the Year. Cabrera will be honored at a luncheon on Monday, Feb. 1 at the Elks Lodge #1812, 1400 E. Washington Ave., El Cajon. Mission Trails Regional Park Guide and experienced birder Winona Sollock will lead a free educational bird identification class in the park on Saturday, January 30^th  at 1 p.m.  The hour-and-a-half class will help increase your enjoyment of nature by teaching you five simple techniques to identify birds at a glance.You will also learn how to use a field guide, so bring one along if you have it.
