NEXT BOULEVARD STROLL SEPT. 7 IN LA MESA HAS ADDED ATTRACTIONS

September 4, 2016 (La Mesa) – The kick-off “Boulevard Stroll” in La Mesa last month was a big success.  If you missed the launch, Boulevard Stroll events will be held the first Wednesday each month from 4-8 p.m.  The next one is set for Wednesday, September 7 along La Mes Blvd and adjacent streets will feature 11 newly added businesses!  Start your stroll on the south end of the boulevard in the Vons Shopping Center.  

"To start the fun, in the courtyard by Albert's Mexican Food we'll have music and a couple performances by the TeeDee Dance Team . The School of Rock will be performing from 5-7 p.m. in front of Jolt-n-Joes.  We've created a new Kids Korner in front of Yogurt Mill where you will find a puppet show and face painting...Some of the other music to look for : Marissa Grace and her band, The PushPins, and Flavor Company Dancers," says Roz Oserin, organizer of the event.

TEAMS WANTED FOR BBQ CONTEST OCT. 16 IN SPRING VALLEY

September 4, 2016 (Spring Valley) – Fire up your barbecues and get your best recipes ready!  The 7th annual Spring Valley Tailgate BBQ Festival is looking for participants to vie for $1,000 in prizes.

The event is sponsored by Cali Comfort Restaurant and the Marso Walchef Youth Empowerment Organization to raise funds for youth sports.  The BBQ competition will be held on Sunday, October 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the street outside Cali Comfort at 8910 Troy Street in Spring Valley.

September 2, 2016 (San Carlos) -- Beginning this fall, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute will open its doors in San Carlos.

Rabbi Rafi Andrusier has taught hundreds of Jewish classes since he first moved to San Diego in 2012, but now he’s taking it to a whole new level. This summer, Rabbi Rafi traveled to New York to attend a series of inaugural training seminars in advance of the upcoming launch of the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) in the eastern San Diego region.

Riverside and Cal Fire will be on hand to share the latest information including treatments that can save your trees.

LORE OF THE LAGUNAS: LIVING HISTORY PAGEANT SEPT. 3-4

August 28, 2016 (Mt Laguna) -- Lore of the Laguna’s (Living History Pageant) returns as the Laguna Mountain Volunteer Association presents its 29th Annual LIVING HISTORY after a two-year hiatus. The past comes alive in this re-enactment of life in the Laguna Mountains, starting in the early 1900s and going back in time. Visit with Native Americans, rugged cowboys and turn-of-the-(last) century mountain men. Meet the first Laguna Forest Ranger, and relive the summer encampment of a 1908 pioneer family from Imperial Valley. How did they survive back then without any modern devices or conveniences and most of all, cell phones or social media? It was a slower pace, but lives were just as eventful and full of adventure as they are now.

You will have an opportunity to stroll through five stunning country estates, and visit Kathy and Mario’s quaint and spectacular place they call Alpine Country Garden and Gifts Shop. The Historic Town Hall will be open from 1pm till 4pm, where you can view Dickens Christmas Village on the Town Hall stage. Ticket holders can also enjoy light refreshments and a surprise gift to say thank you for your support.

BARONA POW-WOW SEPT. 2-4 CELEBRATES NATIVE AMERICAN TRADITIONS

The 46th annual Barona Powwow will take place September 2nd -4th at the Barona sports park, located on the Barona reservation in Lakeside just north of the Barona Casino and Resort. Powwows aim to preserve Native American cultural traditions for future generations. 

Barona’s powwow attracts tribal dancers and drummers from across the nation, as they compete for prizes. (Admission for spectators is free). You can also shop for Native American arts and craft items at vendor booths, and purchase food such as Indian fry bread.
