CHICK-FIL-A IN SANTEE CELEBRATING `COW APPRECIATION DAY’ WITH FREE FOOD ON JULY 12TH

June 29, 2016 (Santee) -- It’s time to break out the cowbells and get your spots on because Chick-fil-A is issuing a cattle call. The nine Chick-fil-A restaurants in San Diego County, including the Chick-fil-A restaurant at 9418 Mission Gorge Road, Santee, are preparing to give away free food on Tuesday, July 12, as part of the chain’s nationwide promotion called “Cow Appreciation Day.” On that day, Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide will offer a free entrée to any customer who visits a restaurant dressed as a cow.

PORCELLA IN CHINA: JUNE 30 IN LEMON GROVE

June 25, 2016 (Lemon Grove) - On June 30 from 5 - 8 p.m. Porcella in China, a celebration of artist Don Porcella's sensational debut in Shanghai as the dazzling designer of four windows for the new flagship store of French couturier Hermès, will be held in the H. Lee House Cultural Center, 3205 Olive, Lemon Grove. The kicker: Don built the fabulous creatures in this exhibit right here in Lemon Grove. See and hear how they did it from Don and ace studio manager Samantha Wilson, and quaff a little bubbly with the fans.

FILM NIGHT AT THE LEMON GROVE LIBRARY JUNE 29

June 25, 2016 (Lemon Grove) – The Short List is back!  Summer film night resumes on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane, and will continue every Wednesday evening thereafter through July 27.  Comedy, drama, animation and documentary from the long-running PBS series, The Short List -- now a cult classic among viewers who relish great short film as they do air and water -- will remind you that the world is large and never dull.

June 25, 2016 (El Cajon) – Ricky Nelson Remembered is a unique multi-media entertainment event featuring the live music of Hall of Famer Ricky performed by Ricky’s own twin sons Matthew & Gunnar, grandsons of ‘50s TV icons Ozzie & Harriet Nelson .   When Matthew and Gunnar hit #1 on Billboard with their rock band NELSON and their own mega hit “Can’t Live Without Your Love & Affection” is put the Nelson family in the Guiness Book of World Records as the only family in entertainment history with three generations of #1 hitmakers.

On June 26th at 7 p.m., the show will be onstage at the Sycuan Live up Close Theatre (5484 Casino Way) in El Cajon. This performance includes never before seen big screen video footage of the NELSON family with interviews from celebrities influenced by Ricky Nelson, as well as his hit songs including “Hello Mary Lou”, “Travelin’ Man”, “and Garden Party.”  This year marks the 31st anniversary of Rick Nelson’s passing in a tragic New Year’s Eve plane crash.

REALTORS FACING NEW STATEWIDE FORMS TO COMPLETE STARTING IN JULY

June 23, 2016 (El Cajon) – Effective July 1, local realtors will be dealing with completing new forms from the California Association of Realtors (CAR). The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR), a 2,300-member trade group for San Diego-area realtors, will present “Forum on Forms,” a program for realtors on new changes in CAR forms, from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, July 1 at the PSAR East County Service Center, 1150 Broadway, El Cajon.

LEWIS AND CLARK BOOK SIGNING AND PRESENTATION JULY 16 AT HERITAGE OF THE AMERICAS MUSEUM

June 21, 2016 (Rancho San Diego) -- Author James Thomas will be at the Heritage of the Americas Museum (12110 Cuyamaca College Drive West, El Cajon) will give a presentation and book signing on Saturday, July 16 from 1-3 p.m.  He will be discussing his book, Corps of Discovery, about the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  Thomas is an expert on Lewis and Clark, so the facts are all there.  But he novelized the story, so his book is filled with conversation and you really feel like you get to know each person on the expedition.  We also sell his book in the Museum Store.   This presentation is fun for all ages. Thomas dresses up as an explorer from the period and brings artifacts like those used on the Lewis and Clark expedition.  So bring the family and come to the museum for this educational and entertaining event.

We're hosting an emergency benefit "Bohemian Bash" this Saturday, June 18 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at our editor's home on Mt. Helix.  Come celebrate our communities' creative roots and savor summer solstice revelry at the hottest party of the season!

Last week, vandals and thieves knocked our radio show and KNSJ's station off the air, doing thousands of dollars of damage at the transmitter site on Mt. Laguna. Come help us rebuild and assure that our communities' voices will be back on the air!

Festivities at this free-spirited gathering with artists, authors, musicians, and thinkers will support nonprofit media in the public interest, local news reporting, and coverage of arts, music and culture. For over 20 years, Julian residents, their friends and parade lovers turn out to watch what some call the “the best little town parade in America.” Pre-parade events start at 10:00 a.m. The parade begins at 12 noon and ends around 2:00 p.m.

June 11, 2016 (Deerhorn Valley) — Residents of Deerhorn Valley will be holding a true Americana-style parade on Monday, July 4th starting at 10 a.m.  Residents of this rural community south of Jamul are invited to take a tractor, lasso a llama, hop on a horse, drive a donkey, walk with a wagon, jump aboard a Jeep or just walk on two feet, festooned in patriotic red, white and blue.  The parade will include Clydesdale horses, an antique fire engine and live drumming.  Spectators are encouraged to bring flags, drums, rattles and shakers.

Participating restaurants as of press time include Anthony's Fish Grotto, BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, Bo-beau kitchen + garden, Brigantine Restaurant, Cali Comfort BBQ, Continental Catering, Cucina Basilico, Edible Arrangements, El Torito, Himalayan Cuisine, Hooley’s Irish Pub and Grill, Luna Grill, Marie Callender's, O's American Kitchen, Pick Up Stix, Riviera Supper Club, Souplantation, Sycuan Casino, Tarantino Gourmet Sausages, Terra American Bistro, The Hills Local Pub, Tiramisu Trattoria, and Valley Farm Market.  Samuel Adams is the exclusive beer sponsor of the evening. HERRICK LIBRARY IN LA MESA EXHIBITS WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS THROUGH JUNE

June 3, 2016 (La Mesa) – The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library is now hosting its Spring Art Exhibit featuring 19 watercolor paintings by award-winning artist Carol Roberts of Spring Valley. The show runs through June 30. The exhibit features paintings of landscapes, animals, birds, flowers and scenery, some of them inspired by Roberts’ scuba diving trips to New Guinea, Palau and Fiji.
