May 25, 2015 (Julian) - Julian’s Sons of the American Legion invite you to the annual Julian Dance and Back Country Barbecue on Saturday, June 13th from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.  The event will be held at Menghini Winery (1150 Julian Orchard Drive) and will feature three live bands: Shotgun Wedding, Freight Shakers, and Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash.

Community Event Offers Food, Games, Music and Family Fun

May 22, 2015 (San Diego's East County) - Travel around the world and learn about other cultures, watch traditional country dances, play carnival games and taste exotic foods at Riverview Elementary School’s 7th Annual International Fair on Saturday, May 30 from 11am to 5pm. This fun-filled community event, complete with a one-of-the kind silent auction, crafts for the kids, photo booth, face painting, vendor booths, games and delicious international food takes place on the grounds of Riverview Elementary School at 9308 Winter Gardens Boulevard in Lakeside. All proceeds will benefit Riverview’s PTSA to provide field trips, assemblies, art, music and dance for Riverview students. Rare Event Affirms Welcoming Church Environment

May 20, 2015 (La Mesa)--At least 400 people are expected to attend a local event that is unusual for mainstream Protestant churches. A modern-day “Love –In” will showcase one United Methodist congregation’s welcoming environment for love between all people, including the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.  The event will take place on Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Foothills United Methodist Church, 4031 Avocado Blvd., La Mesa.

LA MESA FLAG DAY PARADE MAY 30

May 20, 2015 (La Mesa) --   The American Flag will be flown proudly at the 18th annual La Mesa Flag Day Parade on Saturday, May 30th. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. led by the United States 3d Marine Aircraft Wing Band through the downtown La Mesa Village.  Enjoy this year’s Grand Marshal: Sharp Grossmont Hospital Celebrating 60 years in La Mesa. View the many floats, military vehicles, active and retired war heroes, equestrian units, service clubs, and youth groups.  Arrive early to see two pre-parade concerts, La Mesa Middle School and Parkway Middle School bands, at 9:00 a.m. along the La Mesa Boulevard parade route.

SANTEE STREET FAIR AND CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL MAY 23

 

May 19, 2015 (Santee) – The Santee Street Fair and Beer Festival organized by Santee’s Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, May 23rd from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This large festival features local breweries from around San Diego County, live music and entertainment, a crafter row and artist alley, over 300 food and vendor booths, carnival rides and games for the family.

May 17, 2015 (Lemon Grove) -- San Diego Legends is an annual recognition of San Diego elders who lead by example. The Legends exhibit is comprised of paintings by local artist Mona Mills (famous for her realist style blending painting and photography to produce riveting, almost 3-D portraits), photography by San Diego County Library Director José Aponte, and an impact statement about each legend by Deputy Director Susan Moore.

Upstart, founded in 2015, is comprised of and run entirely by students from schools throughout the Grossmont Union High School District, dedicated to keeping classical works of theatre alive on the modern educational stage.

May 14, 2015 (El Cajon) - The Piano Lesson was written by American playwright August Wilson in 1890 as the fourth play of ten in  the Pittsburgh Cycle. The play received a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1990. The play was inspired by a Romare Bearden painting. Wilson intended the play to deal with self-worth and ends up asking how do you best put your legacy to use?

THOUSANDS OF SAN DIEGANS TO ATTEND ISRAEL FEST ON APRIL 26

 

April 23, 2015 (San Diego) – The Jewish Federation of San Diego County and community partners announce the annual community celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israeli Independence Day. On Sunday, April 26, Israel Fest will be held at the Nobel Athletic Field in UTC from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This is a free event to celebrate Israel and educate the local community about Israeli culture. The entire Jewish community of San Diego will be participating, including Friendship Circle of San Diego, which will be kicking off the day with the annual Friendship Walk at 9AM to benefit children with special needs. State Senator, Marty Block and  Congressman, Juan Vargas will be in attendance.

April 15, 2015 (Lakeside)--The 50th annual Lakeside Western Days Parade will roll out on Saturday, April 18th starting at 9:30 a.m. down Lakeside’s Maine Street.   This year’s theme is “There’s no place like home” and the grand marshal is Gita Morena, granddaughter of L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
