HOMICIDE AT PARK IN LEMON GROVE

Updates: The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Anthony Trujillo.  On Feb. 27, Andrew Gomez Cardona, 26, was arrested at a home on S. Magnolia in El Cajon. He has been booked on charges related to the murder of Trujillo, who died of a bullet wound in the neck.  Cardona told deputies that he resided in Lemon Grove.

Lemon Grove Mayor Alysson Snow issued a statement expressing "shock and grief" at the klling in broad daylight. She extended  "love and prayers" to family members and assured that law enforcemeng officers are "acting swiftly to bring those responsible to justice and to account for this inexcusable act of gun violence."

February 23, 2025 (Lemon Grove) – A man is dead after an assault with a deadly weapon at Kunkel Park in Lemon Grove this afternoon. 

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the park within four minutes of a call reporting the assault at 12:40 p.m.  They found a Hispanic man in his 50s lying on the ground with trauma to his upper torso.

“Deputies promptly initiated first aid and life-saving measures, later assisted by Heartland Fire and AMR paramedics. The injured man was transported by AMR to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries,” says Lieutenant Michelle Krugh.

ONE DEAD AFTER BEING STRUCK BY VEHICLE IN LEMON GROVE

July 22, 2024 (Lemon Grove) -- On July 22, 2024, at about 2:15 a.m., Deputies received a radio call of a hit and run in the 8200 block of Broadway in Lemon Grove. Deputies arrived two minutes later and discovered a 44-year-old white male lying in the center lane in the 8300 block of Broadway. The male was conscious and breathing when they arrived. Paramedics arrived and transported the male to the hospital. Unfortunately, while at the hospital, the male succumbed to his injuries.

June 18, 2024 (Lemon Grove) -- A $6,000 reward is now being offered for information that leads to the arrest of a man suspected in a homicide in Lemon Grove.
 
On March 18, 2023, around 10:00 p.m., deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Substation responded to a report of a shooting in the 2800 block of Lemon Grove Avenue. While searching the area, deputies found 39-year-old Gregory Moore unconscious in a car at the intersection of Lemon Grove Avenue and San Miguel Avenue. He was later pronounced dead.
 
Sheriff's Homicide Investigators identified 34-year-old Daniel Ethridge as a suspect. He has an active arrest warrant for homicide and is believed to be associated with a local street gang.

July 26, 2023 (Lemon Grove) -- Do you recognize this man? He is Daniel Ethridge, 34, and he is wanted in connection with a homicide in Lemon Grove earlier this year.

On March 18 around 10:00 p.m., deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Substation responded to a report of a shooting in the 2800 block of Lemon Grove Avenue. While searching the area, deputies found Gregory Moore, 39, unconscious in a car at the intersection of Lemon Grove Avenue and San Miguel Avenue. He was later pronounced dead.

Sheriff's Homicide Investigators have identified Ethridge as a suspect. He has an active arrest warrant for homicide and is believed to be associated with a local street gang. Ethridge has prior convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into an inhabited dwelling.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, according to Lt. Joseph Janjura with the Sheriff’s homicide unit.

TWO MEN WANTED IN CONNECTION TO A HOMICIDE IN LEMON GROVE

May 15, 2023 (Lemon Grove)-- The Sheriff’s Department is looking for murder suspects connected to a shooting that occurred in Lemon Grove and are asking for the publics help.

"On March 18 around 10:00 p.m., deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Substation responded to a report of a shooting in the 2800 block of Lemon Grove Avenue. While searching the area, deputies found 39-year-old Gregory Moore unconscious in a car at the intersection of Lemon Grove Avenue and San Miguel Avenue. He was later pronounced dead.

Sheriff's Homicide Investigators have identified 32-year-old Ronald Shazun Perry and 34-year-old Daniel Ethridge as suspects. Both have active arrest warrants for homicide.

Perry is a Black man standing 5’9” tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Perry has prior convictions for theft, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.

Ethridge is a Black man standing 5’9” tall and weighing 165 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Ethridge has prior convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into an inhabited dwelling.

FATAL SHOOTING AT LEMON GROVE VFW; NO SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY

Update March 22, 2023 -- The victim has been identified as Gregory Moore, 39, of San Diego.  An autopsy confirmed the cause of death was a gunshot wound and the death has been ruled a homicide.

March 19,2023 (Lemon Grove) A fatal shooting occurred at local VFW Post 2082 in Lemon Grove late Saturday night at 2885 Lemon Grove Ave. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call reporting the shooting shortly before 10 p.m. and found a man, 39, unconscious in a vehicle at the intersection of Lemon Grove and San Miguel Avenues, according to Lieutenant Chris Steffen with the San Diego County Sheriff’s homicide unit.

“As the deputies were taking the unconscious man out of the vehicle, they noticed he had gunshot wounds to his upper leg and torso. Deputies applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg as the paramedics arrived,” Lt. Steffen said in media release.

SHOOTING DEATH IN LEMON GROVE

September 7, 2018 (Lemon Grove) --  Shortly after midnight, sheriff's deputies saw a man and woman inside a vehicle parked in the middle of the street  in the 7400 block of Pacific Avenue, in  Lemon Grove. When the deputies investigated, they found the man bleeding from what a witness described as a gunshot wound, says Lt. Rich Williams with the Sheriff’s homicide unit.

Deputies called for Lemon Grove Fire Department personnel to assist and began providing first aid.

“The man was seriously injured and soon stopped breathing. Deputies performed CPR until relieved by fire department personnel,” says Lt. Williams. However dDespite lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at about 12:39 a.m.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED IN LEMON GROVE AFTER DEATH OF INJURED MAN WHO KNOCKED ON DOOR SEEKING HELP

Update June 28, 2018 -- The victim has been identified as Juan Martinez, 47, of Lemon Grove who suffered serious injuries to his upper body. The Medical Examiner's report determining cause of death has been sealed and the Sheriff's homicide investigation continues.

 June 22, 2018 (Lemon Grove) – An injured man who pounded on a door seeking help last night in Lemon Grove has died. A homicide investigation has been launched into the death of the man, who has not yet been identified.

 Startled residents called 9-1-1 shortly before 9 pm. after hearing banging on their door in the 7600 block of Lemon Avenue. When deputies arrived a short time later, they found a man who was lying on the ground, unresponsive, with visible injuries to his upper body.
