County officials respond to November coyote attack at UTC

Dec. 4, 2025 (San Diego County) -- San Diego County officials are sharing information in response to a recent coyote attack that took place in the Westview UTC mall parking lot on Nov. 25.
 
The coyote attack injured two children and has prompted a coordinated response by the county and partner agencies to ensure public safety.
 
The coyote has since been euthanized, county officials say. The animal tested negative for rabies.

Spring Valley woman sentenced for animal cruelty

Oct. 30, 2025 (Spring Valley) -- A woman has been sentenced in an animal cruelty case after San Diego County Department of Animal Services officers responded to a case involving a Chihuahua in Spring Valley.
 
Animal Services met with the dog’s owner in August after receiving a recording from a member of the public showing disturbing treatment of the dog.
 
The dog was taken into county care, where Animal Services, veterinary staff provided treatment, conducted a cruelty exam and ensured the animal had a safe environment.

HELP A PET COME HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

December 15, 2021 (San Diego) – The San Diego County Department of Animal Services needs help sending pets “Home for the Holidays.”  So they are holding events at both the Bonita shelter Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Carlsbad shelter Sunday from Noon to 3 p.m. to adopt out animals before Christmas.
 
Adoption fees will be waived at both locations December 18th and 19th.
