SKATEBOARDER BEATEN AND ROBBED IN LA MESA

 

August 16, 2010 (La Mesa) – Five men beat and robbed a male victim who was walking near 7900 La Mesa Boulevard Saturday at 1:46 a.m. The assailants, all described as black male adults 18-20 years old, stole and victim’s skateboard and wallet. The victim was knocked to the ground, punched and kicked.

The suspects were last seen entering two white vehicles, one possibly a Toyota Camry, heading toward University Avenue.

LA MESA SUBWAY SHOP ROBBED AT GUNPOINT

 


August 10, 2010 (La Mesa) -- Two men robbed the Subway Sandwich Shop at 7404 University Avenue in La Mesa at 9:15 last night. The suspects pointed a handgun at the clerk, demanding money from the register. After the clerk handed them money, they fled westbound on University Avenue on foot. No one was injured and the suspects remain at large.

MOM PACKS A WALLOP: WOMAN WITH TODDLER ROBBED AT GROSSMONT CENTER PARKING LOT, PUNCHED THIEF IN FACE

 

 

July 24, 2010 (La Mesa) – A woman holding her three-year-old son in one arm and a wallet and cell phone in her other hand was accosted at 9:45 last night in the Target parking lot at Grossmont Center. A man grabbed her arm and attempted to take her wallet and phone.  A struggle ensued.  The victim punched the suspect in the face and fled to her vehicle, managing to hold onto her wallet, but her phone was stolen.

POLICE NAB CAB ROBBER IN LA MESA

July 16, 2010 (La Mesa) – A suspect accused of robbing a cab driver at knifepoint in La Mesa has been arrested, La Mesa Police report. The cab driver became suspicious after the suspect directed him to pull over several times in areas that were dark and remote. Instead, the driver stopped his cab in the 7900 block of La Mesa Boulevard at 1:30 a.m. and asked for his fare.

LA MESA POLICE ARREST 2 ROBBERS; 3RD REMAINS AT LARGE

 

July 10, 2010 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police have arrested two juveniles for stealing a woman’s wallet in front of the Von’s store at 9011 University Avenue. A third suspect remains at large.

 

Police received a call reporting the robbery at 8:21 p.m. The 21 year-old victim was in the Vons parking lot when the three suspects approached her from behind. One grabbed the victim’s wallet and forcibly took it. All three suspects ran away while witnesses chased them.

DUO ROBS WELLS FARGO BANK AT GROSSMONT CENTER

 


May 13, 2010 (La Mesa) – This evening at 5:13 p.m., a man and woman robbed Wells Fargo Bank in the Grossmont Center Mall. They used a demand note and threat of a gun during the robbery, obtaining cash before fleeing on foot.  

 

It was the third East County bank robbery in the past two days, though the events are not believed to be related.

CAR BURGLARIES ON RISE IN LA MESA

 

March 24, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police seeks the public’s help to reduce a growing number of car burglaries.

 

Over the past month, car burglaries have occurred throughout the City but the l pattern has been for a small area to be targeted and several cars burglarized from late evening to sunrise. Most frequently targeted areas are along Baltimore Drive north of Fletcher Parkway, Parkway Drive west of Baltimore Drive, and the residential areas around the intersection of Amaya Drive and Severin Drive. Apartment and condominium complexes, where residents do not have garage parking, have also been frequent targets.

GUNMAN ROBS ATM CUSTOMER AT BANK IN LA MESA

 

 

March 15, 2010 (La Mesa) – A man sitting on the curb outside Wachovia Bank at 5610 Lake Murray Boulevard Friday afternoon waited as a customer withdrew money from the ATM machine, then displayed a handgun and demanded the money. The victim handed over the cash and the suspect fled northbound in traffic lanes of Baltimore Drive.

TRANSIENT ARRESTED FOR ANNOYING MINOR ON WAY TO MIDDLE SCHOOL IN LA MESA

March 12, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police have arrested Gustavo Lugo, 54, a transient living along Highway 125. He was booked Friday for one count of annoying/molesting a child, a misdemeanor, and has not yet been charged by the District Attorney’s office, Lt. David Bond told East County Magazine.
The suspect was walking in the same location where a female student was accosted one day earlier while walking on Fletcher Parkway to Parkway Middle School.

THREE ROBBERIES FRIDAY IN LA MESA

 

February 28, 2010 (La Mesa) –A Circle K Store was robbed at gunpoint Friday at 11 p.m. Earlier on the same date, two young men robbed, punched and kicked a juvenile on Spring Street. In yet another incident, a youth was robbed of a cell phone by five men at Water Street and Amaya Drive in La Mesa.

PURSE SNATCHERS NABBED

 

February 4, 2010 (La Mesa) -- La Mesa Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery of a woman at Grossmont Center on January 21st.   The victim suffered a cut on her hand when a suspect attempted to slice the strap of her purse to steal it.

SHOPPER STABBED DURING PURSE-SNATCHING AT GROSSMONT CENTER; REWARD OFFERED

 

January 24, 2010 (La Mesa) – Two white men, one with a mustache, stole a purse and injured a woman who was walking from Walmart to her vehicle in the parking lot at Grossmont Center on Thursday, January 22nd.

 

A green older model Chevy or Ford pickup pulled up in front of the woman and a passenger got out, then tried to slash the victim’s purse strap with a knife. During a struggle, she sustained a deep cut on her hand.

EIGHT VEHICLES BURGLARIZED IN LA MESA THURSDAY NIGHT

 

December 18, 2009 (La Mesa) -- Yesterday during the early morning hours, eight cars were burglarized in La Mesa, mostly in the 5600 block of Amaya Dr. and the 9100 block of Campina Dr. Various items were stolen during the burglaries, mainly loose items lying in open view. There is no suspect description at this time.

MAN PUNCHED AND KICKED IN LA MESA ROBBERY

 

December 14, 2009 (La Mesa) – On December 13th around 2:18 a.m., a man leaving a friend’s home at 8025 Valley View Circle in La Mesa was assaulted while getting into his vehicle . Three black male suspects approached him, armed with a crowbar and a stick. One suspect began punching and kicking the victim while demanding his property and stole his wallet, according to the La Mesa Police. All three suspects fled the scene in a dark 1994 or 1995 Ford Thunderbird. See detailed descriptions below.

November 30, 2009 (La Mesa) – Yesterday at 11:05 a.m., a woman was robbed at the La Mesa Trolley Station at 8248 La Mesa Blvd. The victim had just gotten off the trolley and was robbed on the trolley platform by two female suspects. The victim tried to fight off the two female suspects but was punched several times in the head and pushed to the ground during the encounter.

4th arrest made in Helix-area robberies

 

November 28, 2009 (La Mesa)--La Mesa Police have arrested a fourth individual,  Johnny Stewart, a 20 year old man from La Mesa, in conjunction with a robbery that occured at Helix Charter High School on November 20. Stewart was arrested November 24 and has been charged with armed robbery; bail is set at $100,000.

 

One adult and two juveniles were previously arrested for  two street robberies that occurred on Friday, November 20, 2009 in La Mesa. The first robbery occurred in the 7600 block of Normal Avenue and the second robbery, where a handgun was used, occurred on the campus of Helix Charter High School.

October 22, 2009 (La Mesa) An armed man robbed the Susie’s Hallmark store at 5648 Lake Murray Blvd., La Mesa on October 22 at approximately 1:58 p.m. The man shopped in the store for several minutes, waiting for all customers to leave. Once all the customers were gone, the suspect displayed a k handgun to the store clerks and demanded money from the register.

MAN ROBBED OF PANTS IN LA MESA

 

October 6, 2009 (La Mesa) – Two men robbed a transient of his pants and wallet on October 4 at approximately 9:32 p.m. One suspect was located by La Mesa Police officers within minutes after the robbery and assault. The second suspect, a Hispanic man who goes by the name "Alexi," is still outstanding. He is described as approximately 21 years old, weighing 165 pounds.

September 30, 2009 (La Mesa)--At approximately 1:50 PM on September 28, 2009 a man called La Mesa P.D. from the Kaiser Hospital in San Diego to report that he had been robbed walking home from a local bar early Sunday morning.  Assailants beat the man and reportedly left him unconscious.  La Mesa Police contacted the male victim at the Kaiser Hospital on Zion Ave.  A reward is offered for information leading to arrest and conviction of his attackers.

September 5, 2009 (La Mesa) – Detectives from the East County Gang Task Force arrested Maurice White, a 23 year old black male from the City of Vista, on September 2 for the shooting at the Heritage Inn Motel that took place on August 23, 2009, in La Mesa.

ARMED ROBBERY AT WELLS FARGO BANK KIOSK IN LA MESA

 

August 13, 2009 (La Mesa) -- At 3:20 p.m., a lone suspect entered the Ralph’s Grocery Store, located at 8800 Grossmont Boulevard in La Mesa, and approached a teller at the Wells Fargo Bank kiosk. The suspect drew a large frame, semi-automatic pistol from his front waistband, slammed the gun on the counter, and demanded cash from the teller.
