DEMOCRATS KEEP CONTROL OF THE U.S. SENATE, EXTREMISTS ON RAPE ISSUES DEFEATED

November 8, 2012 (San Diego)-- The Democratic Party was expected to lose control of the Senate back in the Summer. Yet, they were able to maintain control, and this was due to a few important victories. 

Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin became the first openly gay woman to be elected to the Senate. Her victory over Republican Tommy Thomson helped the Democrats maintain control. John Tester, a moderate Democrat from Montana, won re-election as well.

August 22, 2012 (Washington D.C.) – A U.S. Senate candidate’s false belief that  pregnancies from rape are rare has sparked national outrage.  The incident also reveals fissures in the Republican party-drawing attention to the party’s new plank calling for all abortions to be outlawed—and revealing just how unpopular the  party’s extremist platform is with women.

DUCHENY BEATS VARGAS IN PRE-PRIMARY DONATIONS FOR CONGRESSIONAL RACE

 
Ducheny’s Donations Come Primarily from Individuals versus Special Interests
 
May 26, 2012 (San Diego)-- FEC Reports filed yesterday by top congressional candidates in the 51st showed that Denise Moreno Ducheny outraised her primary opponentState Senator Juan Vargas, for the second time since she entered the race. Ducheny raised over $52,780 dollars, while her main opponent raised only $46,344.  Almost 85% of the money Ducheny has raised to date has come from individuals, most of whom live and vote in the 51st Congressional District.  By contrast, just under half of Vargas’ contributions have come from Political Action Committees, like the insurance and banking lobbies.

SALDAÑA REISSUES CHALLENGE TO CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES TO MAKE TAXES PUBLIC

 

March 29, 2012 (San Diego) -- As April 15 approaches and San Diegans prepare to pay their income taxes, Lori Saldaña, the Democratic frontrunner of the 52nd Congressional District, repeated her challenge to the other candidates to release their tax returns.
 
Since issuing her original challenge on February 22nd, Saldaña is the only one of ten candidates who has made her taxes public. The leading Republican contender, Brian Bilbray, has agreed to release his returns, but has not done so.
