STEP OUT: WALK TO STOP DIABETES OCT. 18 TO HELP BENEFIT SANTEE PROGRAM FOR KIDS

 

October 9, 2015 (Santee)--The American Diabetes Association (ADA) in San Diego will raise money for programs and services for people living with diabetes at its Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, a fundraising walk on Sunday morning, Oct. 18, at NTC Park at Liberty Station, 2455 Cushing Road, San Diego.

One of the ADA’s East County programs to receive support from Step Out will be Camp Wana Kura, a summer day-camp held at Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve for children with diabetes.

NEW AMERICANS MUSEUM HOSTS DIA DE LOS MUERTOS EXHIBIT NOV. 1 TO HONOR RITA HAYWORTH

October 30, 2014 (San Diego)--Brightly colored flowers of scarlet, white, orange, violet, yellow, and blue adorn the carpet where student immigrants from as far away as Europe are seated. The friendly group here in the Exhibition Gallery at New Americas Museum is preparing the flowers for a unique exhibit to celebrate Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead on Saturday, November 1, 2014.

The New Americans Museum is creating an altar for the late  dancer and film star Rita Hayworth to be exhibited November 1st from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., along with other open museums and galleries celebrating Dia de los Muertos at Liberty Station that day.

Dia de los Muertos at Liberty Station runs from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., when galleries and studios are open to the public, some with demonstrations, workshops, altars, and “Meet the Artists” events. There will be performances and live music, food trucks, sugar skulls, face painting throughout the day. Admission to the galleries and studios is free.

EAST COUNTY ARTISTS EXHIBIT AT WILDLIFE ART FESTIVAL FEB. 15 - 16

 

February 5, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) -- Several East County artists, including painters and a carver, are among the exhibitors at the 41st annual California Open Wildlife Art Festival, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 15 and 16, at Liberty Station in San Diego’s Point Loma area. Local artists include El Cajon resident and wildlife painter Gloria Chadwick, Jamul resident and wildlife and western watercolorist Ron Dotson, Alpine painter Nancy Bradshaw Palm and Bob Berry of El Cajon, a winner of four world titles in fish carving.

Proceeds help fund special programs for San Diegans in need of hospice care

September 16, 2012 (San Diego) – The LightBridge Hospice Community Foundation, a non-profit organization that fulfills special requests from hospice patients and their loved ones, will host its 4th annual Remembrance Walk on Sunday, September 23 at Liberty Station.

“ BROTHER/SISTER” TEAM SENDING CHILDREN TO WHEELCHAIR CAMP!

 

June 9, 2012 (San Diego) -- Sister and brother team, Danamarie, 17 and Collin McNicholl-Carter, 14 from La Mesa have been bringing awareness to the San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation (SDASF) by recruiting their friends to walk in the 3rd annual “Stroll and Roll” events since 2010. Over 250 people attended this year’s event on May 20, 2012 to walk and/or roll in wheelchairs to raise money to send children to SDASF Jr. Wheelchair Sports Camp on Mission Bay.
