September 1, 2012 (San Diego) – San Diego Police request public help to locate C. Fantozzi, 41. He was last seen on August 28 at 3719 42nd Street in San Diego.
According to the SDPD bulletin, “Fantozzi is very depressed over a recent divorce and lives in an assisted living facility for his depression.” He walked away from the residence and has been known for walk for many miles a day.

August 30, 2012 (San Diego) – On the 92nd anniversary of women winning the right to vote, Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) gave an impassioned speech warning about threats to women’s hard-won rights.
Davis, a former League of Women Voters president, spoke of efforts by the Republican-controlled Congress and presidential/vice presidential candidates to redefine rape, weaken the Violence Against Women Act, defund Planned Parenthood, restrict access to birth control, and prevent military rape victims from obtaining abortions.
She also denounced voter suppression efforts, which she called “chilling.”

August 30, 2012 (Lakeside) -- Authorities have recovered the body of Milt Eisen, 41, who drowned August 26 in the El Capitan Reservoir.
Eisen, manager of the El Cajon Kia dealership, reportedly jumped from a boat into El Capitan reservoir to cool off but was unable to make his way back to the boat. Divers searched the 197-foot-deep for multiple days in conjunction with several agencies.

August 30, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Since the California Public Utilities Commission required SDG&E to provide opt-out options for customers who wanted smart meters removed or not installed, some complaints have surfaced over notification, fees, access for meter readers to homes with dogs, and more. The Electrosmog Prevention organization has created a survey for SDG&E consumers in our area. Consumers can fill out the survey below and return the completed survey to Sue Brinchman, director@electrosmogprevention.org. August 25, 2012 (San Diego) -- The Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor and Interpretive Center will be closed Monday, August 27 through Friday, August 31 for resurfacing of the cement flooring.
The Park will remain open as usual and the Visitor Center parking lot, terrace, amphitheater, and restrooms will all be accessible. The free Guided Nature Walks conducted by Trail Guides every Wednesday, August 29 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. will continue while the Visitor Center is closed. August 22, 2012 (San Diego)—Campus police are evacuating the West Commons area on the San Diego State University campus due to a bomb threat, an alert posted at the SDSU website and updated at 4:30 p.m. states.
The bomb threat was called in at 3:30 p.m. at the U.S. Bank branch at West Commons. SDSU police and a bomb unit are investigating.

Feral honeybees in urban areas of San Diego County have been determined to be predominately Africanized by biologists who test the genetic makeup of local bees.

August 21, 2012 (La Mesa) – Two elderly women struck by a Chevrolet Express van while crossing Calle Verde in La Mesa on August 13 have died of their traumatic injuries.
Jean Gastelum, 77, passed away on August 16 at Sharp Memorial Hospital. Her friend, Dorothy Stephens, 83, was pronounced dead at the scene before a medical helicopter arrived.
Both women were residents of La Mesa.
