EL CAJON ARTIST WINS BEST OF THEME AWARD; EXHIBIT OPEN THROUGH JANUARY 29

January 19, 2022 (El Cajon) - Elaine Harvey, an artist and resident of El Cajon, California, has won the Best of Theme award in the continuingly competitive January 2022 San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) Member’s exhibition “The New Purple is Black”, an in-gallery show of the SDWS at 2825 Dewey Road in Liberty Station, San Diego, CA. Newman’s painting entitled “Returning Light” was selected by prominent local artist and juror Linda Doll for this honor, out of 220 entries. Doll said of  the painting, “This painting has energy, with both subtle color and brilliant color, it has the movement of butterflies or of fireflies. There is always something moving, making it an energetic piece. It is definitely a beautiful painting.”

September 1, 2020 (San Diego) - No fewer than four artists in East San Diego County have received some of the highest honors available for watermedia artists this month. La Mesa artist Craig Anderson and El Cajon residents Linda Drake and Michael Garberick all had paintings that were juried into the highly competitive 40th International Exhibition to be held virtually in October on The San Diego Watercolor Society website, www.sdws.org. The art was selected from nearly 900 entries from 21 countries by nationally known juror Michael Reardon.  In addition, Lakeside artist Susan Hewitt won third place in the San Diego Watercolor Society’s September Members Show. This highly selective show was juried by nationally known artist Richard Glassman.

EAST COUNTY ARTISTS TO SHOWCASE THEIR ARTWORK AT SECOND ANNUAL ARTWALK CARLSBAD, SEPTEMBER 21-22

August 15, 2019 (San Diego) - Artists from East County that will be showcasing their artwork at the 2nd annual ArtWalk Carlsbad, afine arts festival that will bring immersive art experiences, visual arts and live music—including a performance by A.J. Croce—to North County on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22. The participating artists from East County include Jason Humphrey, Monique Straub and Gloria Chadwick.

EAST COUNTY ARTISTS TO SHOWCASE ARTWORK AT THE 14TH ANNUAL ARTWALK AT LIBERTY STATION AUGUST 10 AND 11

July 30, 2019 (San Diego) - ArtWalk @ Liberty Station will return to Ingram Plaza for its 14th year of “Connecting Creative Communities” on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 in the Arts District at Liberty Station. The fine arts festival brings visual arts, music and interactive art experiences to the historic San Diego community all weekend long. More than 200 visual artists will be on hand including East County artists Linda DrakeJason HumphreyBette BarnettCindy Teyro and Island Paper. Thousands can peruse through the garden browsing artwork and enjoying food, wine and beer, and live entertainment at the two-day, free event.

March 14, 2019 (San Diego) - Three East County artists have won awards in the 56th annual Lenten Art Show at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, San Diego.  Carlos Meneses, Paradise Hills, won first place, Jenny K. Ferrone, El Cajon, won second place and Sandra Seckington, Lakeside, received an Honorable Mention Award. There are a total of 56 art works by 30 artists in the show.
