September 4,2012 (Alpine)--Let's help to dispel ill-fated news on a 12^th high school in Alpine (HS12) by a "Focus", on the "Top Five HS12 Myths", Let's demystify the most commonly tossed-about HS12 less-than-honest rumors;

#1) We [GUHSD] are in declining enrollment.

>> Irrelevant; The high schools directly affected by the HS12, have now been, "De-Mythed" by a GUHSD Boundary Committee. BC reports, charts & demographic data show that the entire GUHSD will benefit by HS12, which will bring hundreds of new students back to the GUHSD, and several million($) in new CA ADA funding back.

September 4, 2012 (Sacramento)—A bill to provide students with more accurate consumer information about private, for-profit postsecondary schools was approved by the Assembly and will head to the Governor for his consideration.

September 2, 2012 (La Mesa) – The La Mesa Historical Society will hold its fall History Roundtable event on September 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Grossmont Community College, Room 26-220, 8800 Grossmont College Dr., El Cajon.  The topic for the event is “La Mesa Youth Baseball World Champions” which focuses on La Mesa’s astounding your baseball success in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.

September 1, 2012 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police officers responded to 911 calls at noon today reporting that a man armed with a crowbar was chasing another man in the 500 block of East Main Street. When the first officer arrived and exited his vehicle, the suspect, armed with the metal bar, charged at the officer.

September 1, 2012 (Sacramento) —Legislation by Assemblymember Marty Block (AD-78) to ensure early detection of life-threatening congenital heart disease in newborns left the Assembly today on a 59-16 vote. It is co-sponsored by the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.

September 1, 2012 (La Mesa) – The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) is soliciting public input as part of its strategic planning process. September 1, 2012 (El Cajon) –  Able Torres, 29, has been arrested and charged with murder following a stabbing death in EL Cajon at 11 p.m. last night. The identity of the victim, 18, has not yet been released by authorities.

September 1, 2012 (San Diego) – San Diego Police request public help to locate C. Fantozzi, 41.  He was last seen on August 28 at 3719 42nd Street in San Diego. 

According to the SDPD bulletin, “Fantozzi is very depressed over a recent divorce and lives in an assisted living facility for his depression.”  He walked away from the residence and has been known for walk for many miles a day.    

August 31, 2012 (San Diego) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with Sunbeam Products Inc., announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

August 31, 2012 (San Diego's East County)--California agencies battling the spread of invasive quagga and zebra mussels are asking boaters to be especially vigilant over the three-day Labor Day weekend. In San Diego County, these mussels have been found in Lake Dixon and San Vicente reservoir. 

August 30, 2012 (San Diego) – On the 92nd anniversary of women winning the right to vote, Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) gave an impassioned speech warning about threats to women’s hard-won rights.

Davis, a former League of Women Voters president, spoke of efforts by the Republican-controlled Congress and presidential/vice presidential candidates to redefine rape, weaken the Violence Against Women Act, defund Planned Parenthood, restrict access to birth control, and prevent military rape victims from obtaining abortions. 

She also denounced voter suppression efforts, which she called “chilling.”
