June 16, 2014 (Sacramento)—The California Legislature approved a $58.3 billion budget shortly before the constitution deadline Sunday night. The measure was a compromise between Governor Jerry Brown and the Democratic-controlled Legislature.

CERT COMES TO DESCANSO: FREE TRAINING ON DISASTER RESPONSE IN MARCH

February 24, 2013 (Descanso)--If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community’s professional response, Community Emergency Response Tea.m. (CERT) members can assist others by applying the basic response and organizational skills that they learned during training.  These skills can help save and sustain lives following a disaster until professional help arrives.

The CERT training will be held in Descanso at the Town Hall on March 8-9 and March 14-16.  The classes themselves are free.

DRUG AND DEVICE MAKERS MUST DISCLOSE PAYMENTS TO DOCS

February 11, 2013 (Washington D.C.) --The Food and Drug Administration has just announced it's looking for dozens of doctors to serve on advisory committees that evaluate new medical devices before they hit the market. But the agency is also operating under new rules that could make it harder to fill those vacancies. The Affordable Care Act requires drug companies and medical device makers to publicly disclose payments they make to doctors and hospitals.

The Aspire Center, the Department of Veterans Affairs’ proposed 40-bed medical facility in Old Town, finally won approval. Local veterans suffering mental and emotional wounds after their service will finally have a place of their own to recuperate under the best care available.
