CIVIL RIGHTS ADVOCATE, FLOOD VICTIMS PLAN CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST CITY OF SAN DIEGO

January 25, 2024  (San Diego) – Shane Harris, president of the People’s Association of Justice Advocates, held a press conference in the Mountain View community Tuesday to announce plans to file a class action lawsuit against the City of San Diego for “long-standing negligence” in failing to clear flood channels before severe storms.  He was joined by residents whose homes flooded along the 100-year flood plain including Encanto, Southcrest and Mountain View.

OFFICER KILLS SUSPECT WHO FATALLY SHOT WOMAN AND DOG IN ENCANTO

August 29, 2023 (San Diego) – A SWAT team standoff last night ended in a hail of gunfire that killed a man who opened fire on police, after fatally shooting a woman and a dog, then setting fire to the home.

BOIL-WATER NOTICE ISSUED FOR ENCANTO AREA; GET FREE WATER AT THESE LOCATIONS OR DROP-OFF WATER BOTTLES FOR AFFECTED RESIDENTS

UPDATE: As of Saturday, June 12 at 11:05 a.m., the precautionary boil water notice has been lifted, reports Ready San Diego.

June 11, 2021 (San Diego) -- The City of San Diego is advising the public to not drink tap water without boiling it first in the Encanto area. This includes the area north of Brooklyn Avenue, south of State Route 94, west of 69th Street and east of Kelton Road, as well as Leppert Court, the 1100-1469 blocks of Watwood Road and the 1000-1400 blocks of Larwood Road

The Boil Water Notice was issued after a construction crew damaged a water main near Imperial Avenue and 65th Street Thursday.The city expects to have the problem resolved by Sunday. Until then, those affected should comply with the notice to avoid potential illness.

SUSPECT FATALLY SHOT BY OFFICERS IN ENCANTO

January 15, 2013 (Encanto)--San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in the Encanto neighborhood of east San Diego.

According to police, on Saturday, January 12 around 1:17 a.m., a San Diego police officer patrolling the area saw a car speeding eastbound in the 5400 block of Imperial Avenue.  The officer attempted to stop the car for the speeding violation; however the driver failed to yield to the officer’s police lights and siren. Two other officers assisted in the pursuit, chasing the car to the 6500 block of Brooklyn Avenue.

POLICE INVESTIGATE DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN ENCANTO; SEEK GOLD NISSAN SENTRA

November 20, 2011 (Encanto) – A man treated at Paradise Hospital for gunshot wounds to his back and arm told officers that he was shot late last night in the area of 66th and Herrick Street. According to the victim, two Hispanic males age 18-25 drove up to him in a gold Nissan Sentra. One of the occupants shot him several times.

DEAF WOMAN, 71, ROBBED IN HOME INVASION

August 15, 2011 (Encanto) – A 71-year-old deaf woman awoke to find a man in her home at 200 Jenna Court on August 13th at 2:35 p.m. According to San Diego Police, the suspect was going through her purse and pointed a gun at her when she awoke, ordering her to give him the key to her truck.

COACH ARRESTED, ACCUSED OF SEX WITH STUDENT

July 10, 2011 (San Diego) – Jose Antonio Carrillo, 49, a resident of Encanto, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he had a sexual affair with a 16-year-old female student. Carillo served as a volunteer field hockey coach at Bonita Vista High School in Otay and also was an instructor at Jackie Robinson YMCA in San Diego.

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF 11-YEAR OLD

 

September 23, 2010 (Encanto) – Two people in a White Ford Explorer reportedly tried to coax an 11-year-old walking to school into their vehicle yesterday morning, San Diego Police report. The attempted kidnapping occurred near 61st street and Division in the Encanto neighborhood southwest of Lemon Grove.

SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS HELP IDENTIFYING MURDER VICTIM

 

July 28, 2010 (East San Diego) -- On July 25, 2010, at approximately 11:31 p.m., a young man was found lying in the eastbound lanes of 6800 Imperial Avenue near 69th Street in the Encanto area. Suffering from stab wounds, he died later that evening. His identity is not known.

 

The victim is white, 18-20 years-old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 130 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. His left upper arm has a tattoo of a religious cross with “est. 1991” above the cross.

CARJACKING AT GUN POINT ON 61ST STREET; DODGE CHARGER LICENSE 6F0V930

 

 

July 7, 2010 (Encanto) - San Diego Police Department seeks public help to locate a 2007 Dodge Charger, California license 6FOV930, which was carjacked last night at 9:55 p.m. A Hispanic man with a shaved head ran up to the driver, a 33-year-old woman driving her friend’s car, as she pulled up to 305 61st Street. He ordered her out of the car at gunpoint and stole the vehicle.
