March 18, 2017 (La Mesa) - Helix High varsity boys basketball has paved their way to the finals.  Tonight, they faced Immanuel High School from Reedley, California.  The Eagles sport a 23-8 overall season record and an 8-2 league record and are the Central Section champions.

March 18, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State used a 15-hit attack along with some solid pitching as it defeated UNLV 10-5, Saturday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the win, the Aztecs evened the weekend series with the Rebels at a game apiece while improving their record to 12-7 overall and 3-2 in Mountain West play.

March 18, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State dropped a 7-6 decision to Fresno State Saturday at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (16-11, 0-2 MW) and Bulldogs (19-9, 2-0 MW) combined for 29 hits in the game, which featured three lead changes.

March 18, 2017 (Gold River, Calif.) - The San Diego State rowing team traveled to Lake Natoma on Saturday where it finished first in six of seven races, with wins over American Athletic Conference foe Sacramento State and Saint Mary’s. The Aztecs raced eight boats in seven scheduled events today, first in morning races against the Hornets and versus the Gaels in the afternoon.

March 18, 2017 (Bakersfield) - No. 12 San Diego State completed a four-game-in-three-day stretch on Saturday by splitting two games at the Roadrunner Invitational in Bakersfield. The Aztecs defeated Cal State East Bay, 15-4, before falling to No. 11 Princeton, 5-4. The two decisions put SDSU’s record for the season at 11-9.

March 17, 2017 (El Cajon) - In the midst of Helix basketball’s playoff run, spring sports have begun in East County’s high schools and on St. Patrick's Day, Valhalla High boys lacrosse traveled to Grossmont for an early season conference matchup which marked the beginning of conference play.  Both teams are struggling in the young season; the Norsemen are 0-4 and the Foothillers are 0-3.

March 17, 2017 (San Diego) -  San Diego State tried to right the ship in its second match of the San Diego Spring Break Tournament, but still encountered rough waters in a 4-1 defeat to Harvard in the consolation round Friday at Aztec Tennis Center. With the result, SDSU was unable to avoid its fourth loss in a row, falling to 5-9 on the year, while the Crimson improve to 9-7 overall.

March 17, 2017 (Indianapolis) - San Diego State diver Alexandra Caplan competed on the 3-meter springboard at the 2017 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday, advancing out of the prelims and placing seventh in the consolation final. The championships are being hosted by the Indiana Sports Corp and IUPUI this week in Indianapolis, Ind.

March 16, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State opened the seventh annual San Diego Spring Break Tournament on a sour note Thursday, dropping a 4-0 decision to No. 25 Oregon at Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU was blanked for the third straight match, all by top 30 opponents, falling to 5-8 on the year, while the Ducks won their fourth in a row to raise their record to 12-2 overall.

March 15, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State rower Tara Montgomery has been named a 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar team honoree, Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine announced. Montgomery was selected as one of the winners for the 37 sports included in this year’s special report and was chosen from over 1,200 nominated minority student-athletes across the nation.

March 14, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State took the lead on the first pitch of the game and never looked back as it defeated No. 25 University of San Diego, 10-1, Tuesday evening at Fowler Park.

 

With the win the Aztecs improved to 11-6 on the season while the Toreros saw the end of a four-game win streak with their record settling in at 10-4. USD came into the contest ranked No. 25 by D1Baseball.com and just outside the Collegiate Baseball top 25 (26th) this week.

March 14, 2017 (La Mesa) - Helix High varsity boys basketball has breezed through two rounds of the Division IV CIF playoffs.  They defeated Granada Hills Charter last Wednesday night in Round I, followed by a rout of West High from Torrance on Saturday night in Round II, now it was time for the regional semifinals tonight against Carson High School from Carson, California.  The Colts have had a phenomenal season and entered San Diego with a 23-6 record on the season.

March 14, 2017 (Chula Vista) - San Diego State men’s golfer Blake Abercrombie finished in a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard Tuesday after shooting a 2-under-par 70 during the final round of the 10th annual Lamkin San Diego Classic at San Diego Country Club. With his result, the Aztec junior logged his fourth career top-five placement and second of the year, completing the tournament at 6-under-par 210.

March 13, 2017 (Lakeside)  - Lakeside's River Park Conservancy will hold the 10th annual San Diego River Run 5k on Saturday, May 6 from  8 a.m. to 11 a.m.at the Lakeside River Park trail.

The San Diego River Run 5k will be held in the morning this year, with on-site registration beginning at 7:00 am and the race starting at 8:00 am. The event will take place at Lakeside's River Park located at 10398 Channel Road, Lakeside.

March 12, 2017 (Long Beach) - Junior Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) hit a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to lift the San Diego State softball team to a 6-1 victory over Harvard Sunday afternoon at Long Beach State. It was the third straight win for the Aztecs (16-9) in their final non-conference game of the season.
