ST. MADELEINE SOPHIE’S CENTER PRESENTS MORNING GLORY BRUNCH APRIL 14--WITH A COUNTRY STYLE

 

April 2, 2012 (El Cajon) -- St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center’s 14th Annual Morning Glory Brunch is once again generating a buzz around town, and it’s not just because the bees and butterflies are attracted to St. Madeleine’s organic garden. Approximately 500 people are expected to attend this popular brunch on Saturday, April 14 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on St. Madeleine’s campus at 2119 E. Madison Avenue, El Cajon.

Geocaching Easter Eggs?

March 17, 2012 (Boulevard) -- Veterans and their families are invited to come geocaching on Saturday, April 7th and to enjoy inexpensive camping ($10-$15) at Sacred Rocks Reserve during April.  The privately owned campground has set aside the month of April to say thanks for the sacrifices of veterans and their families.

LIONS, TIGERS AND BEARS 2ND ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT

March 30, 2012 (Alpine) -- . Lions, Tigers and Bears will be holding their annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 7, from 9 a.m. until 11a.m at 24402 Martin Way, Alpine.  Children will be able to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt and enjoy the sights and sounds of the big cats.

Donations of $25 for adults, $10 for kids ages 2-12 and kids under 2 are free with an accompanying adult.   Bring your own basket to carry home your goodies.  RSVP by April 1 by calling 619-659-8078.

FAMILIES ENCOURAGED TO COME AND ENJOY EGG HUNTS IN COUNTY PARKS STARTING SATURDAY

March 30, 2012 (San Diego) -- Kids and families will have their choice of enjoying traditional egg hunts, meeting the Spring Bunny, gobbling up a pancake breakfast and just generally having some egg-ucational fun over the next two weekends at County parks in Ramona, Spring Valley,  Cardiff, Del Mar and Encinitas.

“A good egg hunt is a fun spring-time tradition for many families and it’s hard to imagine a better place than an egg-hunt in one of our great parks,” said Brian Albright, director of the San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation. “They’re the perfect place for the whole family.”

March 27, 2012 (La Mesa) -- The third annual East County Earth Day, a free family event, will be held at the Mt. Helix Amphitheater on Sunday, April 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Co-hosted by The Jarrett Meeker Foundation and Mt. Helix Park, East County Earth Day will feature vendors with interactive environmental and wildlife presentations.  Educational speakers, music, food and children’s activities will make the day complete.

BATTY FOR BATS NATURE TALK MARCH 31!

March 27, 2012 (Lakeside) – Lakeside’s River Park Conservancy will be having a free presentation for members by local Project Wildlife bat expert Cindy Myers and her bat ambassador.  There are roughly two dozen bat varieties in San Diego County.  Learn about this small, furry and ecologically essential mammal.

CELEBRATE THE PERSIAN NEW YEAR MARCH 31!

March 26, 2012 (El Cajon) – The San Diego County Library at 201 E. Douglas Avenue, El Cajon is hosting a Persian New Year celebration on March 31 at 2:00 p.m.  Attendees will enjoy free entertainment, including a performance by the Dornob Music Ensemble, and learn about ancient traditions and culture.  Known as Nowruz, the Persian New Year festival typically lasts for thirteen days.

FEEL THE BEAT AT THE RAMONA MUSIC FEST MARCH 31!

March 25, 2012 (Ramona) – The Ramona Music Fest is Saturday, March 31 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Dos Picos County Park, 17953 Dos Picos Park Road in Ramona.  A variety of exceptional music artists will light up two stages.

The headliners this year are Rockola and Cactus Twan Whyte Grano & Nash.Rockola has earned no fewer than eight San Diego Music awards in their three decades together. Cactus Twang Whyte Grano & Nash offer spot-on performances of beloved classics made famous by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

March 14, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Hooley’s Irish Pub & Grille invites you to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at HooleyFest, a party that takes place from 5 p.m. to midnight at Hooley’s locations in Rancho San Diego and La Mesa.

THE DESERT’S PAST COMES ALIVE AT “VALLECITO DAYS” MARCH 10, 11 WITH CIVIL WAR REENACTORS

 March 1, 2012 (Julian) -- Imagine making a brutal desert crossing on a San Diego-bound stagecoach and coming to a station with water, food and the first sign of greenery for miles.  Or marching east across the desert during the Civil War as a Union volunteer from California, determined to reach Arizona or New Mexico to halt invading Confederates. 

 
Scenes like these from the 1850s and 1860s frontier will come to life at the sixth annual “Vallecito Days” at Vallecito Stage Station County Park Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11. The festival runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

STAR PARTY TO SHINE AT MISISON TRAILS FEB. 25

February 23, 2012 (San Diego) –Stargazer and trail guide George Varga will lead a stargazing party at Mission Trails Regional Park on February 25 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Participants at the event, four days after the New Moon, can expect to view deep sky objects such as the Orion Nebula, the Crab Nebula in Taurus and much more. The Crab Nebula (photo, left) is the result of a supernova that occurred in 1054 AD and was recorded by Chinese observers.

LA MESA ROLLS OUT CENTENNIAL

February 17, 2012 (La Mesa)--Gold and blue balloons spotted the La Mesa Village Plaza this past Tuesday for the kick-off of the yearlong La Mesa Centennial celebration.

The crowd waited expectantly, cameras in hand, for a special blue Centennial trolley wrapped in historical photos.  A band played old-time tunes as the trolley rolled into the station and the Centennial committee, along with Mayor Art Madrid and the City Council, disembarked.
