Both Democratic presidential candidates’ campaigns will be holding rallies in San Diego this weekend, gearing up for the June 7th primary election.  Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will hold rallies in the South Bay and North C ounty, while former President Bill Clinton will hold a rally in Chula Vista and a fundraiser in Rancho Santa Fe for his wife, Hillary Clinton.

May 20, 2016 (Los Angeles) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced the approval of the resolution of a nationwide disability discrimination case against home improvement, appliance and hardware giant Lowe’s.  U.S. District Court Judge André Birotte Jr. approved the consent decree which calls for the distribution of $8.6 million.

HOUSE VOTES TO ALLOW V.A. DOCTORS TO RECOMMEND MEDICAL MARIJUANA FOR VETERAN PATIENTS

 

233-189 vote in favor of V.A. appropriations amendment indicates large increase in support from previous year

May 20, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) -- The U.S. House voted this morning in favor of a measure that would allow Veterans Administration doctors to recommend medical marijuana for their patients in states where medical marijuana is legal, currently 24 states including California. The measure, an amendment to the Department of Veterans Affairs appropriations bill proposed by Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), passed by a 44-vote margin, including 57 Republicans voting in favor. The final vote was 233-189. A similar amendment proposed in the House last year failed narrowly, 213-210.

SANDERS WINS OREGON; NEAR TIE SPLITS DEMOCRATIC DELEGATES IN KENTUCKY BETWEEN CLINTON AND SANDERS

 

Trump gets 66% of Oregon votes in uncontested Republican primary

May 19, 2016 (San Diego) – Both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will each pick up 27 delegates in the Kentucky primary where with 100% of precincts counted,  Clinton received 46.8% of the vote and Sanders 46.3%.

In Oregon, Sanders scored victory with 56% of the vote, while Clinton took 44%. Sanders will get 34 delegates and Clinton 25, as of the results with 96% of the count tallied, Associated Press reports.

May 19, 2016 (San Diego) -- Signature gathers are working to put two competing measures on the ballot. One, backed by former M*A*S*H star Mike Farrell, would eliminate the death penalty in California.  The second measure would speed up the process for inmates on death row.

May 18, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell warned Tuesday that the Sierra snowpacks are melting “faster than we have ever seen.”  Despite El Niño rains, he predicts, “We anticipate a very active fire season in California.”
