January 14, 2008 (El Cajon) — To mark the 1st anniversary
of the opening of its new, state-of-the-art Sculpture facility, the Hyde Art
Gallery at Grossmont College will host Forms in Metal , a
group exhibition of contemporary metalwork from January 26-February 26; An
opening event is scheduled for February 10th from 7-9 p.m.

The exhibition will feature the work of seventeen artists engaged in the production
of metal objects of utility, ceremony, and ornament. Forms in Metal will
explore the means by which each artist manipulates metal and makes use of it
as a vehicle to convey a wide range of personal experiences, concerns, interests,
and ideas. The work exhibited underscores the possibilities inherent in metal
as a medium of artistic expression.

January 14, 2009 (EL CAJON--“Dr. Cindy Miles, president of the Hialeah Campus at Miami Dade College in Florida, has been unanimously selected by the governing board as chancellor of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District. Miles replaces Dr. Omero Suarez, who is retiring from a record term of more than a decade. Trustees voted 5-0 to approve a three-year contract with a $245,000 annual salary plus benefits. Miles starts her new job March 1.

December 17, 2008 (El Cajon ) — Grossmont Cuyamca Community College District today announced it has passed five separate 2007-2008 audits.  The audits presented to the governing board cover the district's general audit, its part-time employees' pension plan, Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges foundations, and the district's auxiliary. Two more audits relating to the district's Prop.

December 12, 2008 (El Cajon)   Former governing board member Wendell
Cutting was remembered Friday for his generosity of spirit and caring for humanity
during a dedication ceremony for a Cuyamaca College science and technology
building that now bears his name.

The naming of Wendell Cutting Center, which houses labs for the life and physical
sciences programs, as well as computer information science, recognizes not
only the depth of his caring for students,  but also the value he placed
on learning. A middle-school teacher and administrator during the 70s and
a governing board trustee from 2002 until his death in 2006, Cutting was a
proponent of advancing science and technology education at Cuyamaca College.

December 2, 2008 (EL CAJON) Public forums are scheduled for Dec. 10 and 11 for two finalists seeking the position of GCCCD chancellor. The finalists are
Dr. Cindy Miles, president of the Hialeah Campus of Miami Dade College in Florida,
and Dr. Mark Zacovic, interim vice president of administrative services for
the Pasadena Area Community College District.

The district is seeking a new chancellor because of Dr. Omero Suarez's plans
to retire from the district next spring after more than a decade at the district's
helm.

December 12 deadline for schools to apply

You have heard about the Stone Age, the Iron Age and the Bronze Age. Now we are
in the midst of a new technological revolution driven by nanotechnology and
other material sciences, which will usher in a new age of Advanced Materials. On
April 1, 175 high school students from all over San Diego County will
have the opportunity to participate in a fun, interactive and eye-opening day
as they learn about some of the exciting technologies that are driving this
new technological age.
