October 1, 2014 (Sacramento) – Governor Jerry Brown has signed two bills to regulate firearms, but vetoed a third.

Family members can now seek a temporarily restraining order in court to block gun use and purchase, short-term, by a person showing signs of mental instability.  Assembly Bill 1014 was prompted by the deadly shootings in Isla Vista near U.C. Santa Barbara, where family members had warned law enforcement that they feared the suspect was planning violence.

October 1, 2014 (San Diego) – Santa Ana Winds are set to sweep into the area, and CAL FIRE is boosting preparations.

“On behalf of CAL FIRE San Diego Unit and County Fire Chief Tony Mecham, I would like to advise you on some of the preparations that are being made in anticipation of the hot dry weather and Santa Ana winds that will be occurring over the next few days,” says Fire Captain and Public Information Officer Kendal E. October 1, 2014 (San Diego) – San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has responded to calls from the City Council and more than a thousand climate march activists locally by releasing a comprehensive Climate Action Plan. The plan calls for cutting the city’s carbon emissions 15% by 2020 and nearly in half --49%-- by 2035. The city also aspires to produce 100% of its power from renewable resources by 2035.

September 30, 2014 (San Diego)--Douglas Holbrook, a San Diego attorney, KNSJ radio host, and past president of Activist San Diego, has died of heart failure that occurred while driving over the weekend. He is survived by his two daughters and a two-year-old granddaughter.

September 29, 2014 (San Diego)--The National Weather Service warns that an upper-level high pressure system is building over the San Diego, raising temperatures through next weekend. Highs will rise to near normal by Tuesday, then another 5 to 15 degrees above normal by the weekend with Saturday forecast to be the warmest day .

September 28, 2014 (Lakeside)--A 61-year old man was crushed by a skip loader tractor this morning in Lakeside. The Lakeside resident had been working with another man to excavate a pipe on Wildcat Canyon Road near Muth Valley Road when the tractor turned and the heavy load caused it to tip.

Plan would open up 22 million acres of California to large-scale renewable energy development

September 26, 2014 (San Diego’s East County)--The Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service this week published in the Federal Register a Notice of Availability of the draft Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP) Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS).  A formal comment period is now open through January 9, 2015.
