WEBER BILLS ADDRESS POLICE SHOOTINGS AND RACIAL PROFILING

 

April 15,2015 (San Diego)--Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a San Diego Democrat and African-American, has introduced two bills aimed at stopping  racial profiling and bringing accountability to shootings by police.  The measures are sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU.

STATE IMPOSES WATER RESTRICTIONS

March 19, 2015 (Sacramento) -- It’s official – the state’s Water Resources Control Board on Tuesday voted to impose water limits statewide to conserve water during the ongoing drought, the Sacramento Bee reports.

February 26, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) - Tobacco may soon be snuffed out at all baseball parks in California, if a new bill introduced by Assemblyman Tony Thurmond wins approval in the California Legislature.

UC POSTPONES TUITION HIKES

February 19, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – University of California President Janet Napolitano has announced that UC will postpone a planned 5 percent tuition hike from the summer quarter until fall.  The decision comes after Governor Jerry Brown proposed an extra $119 million for UC funding in 2016, still $100 short of what regents have said is needed to cancel the rate hikes of 5 percent a year for the next five years that are set to kick in this year.

January 11, 2015 (Sacramento)—Governor Jerry Brown has unveiled his proposed $164.7 billion budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year(including $113.3 billion in general funds), drawing mixed reactions from around the state following several months of healthy revenue growth.   Seeking a fiscally prudent path, the Governor aims to pay down long-term debts and boost California’s rainy day fund for budget reserves by $2.8 billion.

October 7, 2014 (Sacramento)--California’s Fair Political Practices Commission has proposed fines for “money laundering” against three Republican central committees. .The committees illegally funneled money from major donors into candidates’ campaigns in amounts over legal limits, the FPPC says.

HUESO CHARGED, BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL AT LEGAL LIMIT

September 8, 2014 (Sacramento) -- State Senator Ben Hueso, who was arrested on August 22 after driving the wrong way in Sacramento, had a blood alcohol level of exactly .08, the minimum threshold at which charges can be filed, the Sacramento Bee Reports.
