STUDENTS ROBBED AT GUNPOINT NEAR GROSSMONT HIGH: POLICE SEEK TIPS ON SUSPECTS IN BLUE NISSAN SENTRA

October 14, 2020 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police seek public help to locate suspects in a blue Nissan Sentra who reportedly robbed three Grossmont High School students in front of the Shell Gas Station on Murray Drive at 12:45 p.m. today.  
 
The students were walking near the station when the Nissan’s driver pulled into the gas station driveway, stopped na got out of the car. He demanded money from the students while a passenger pointed a handgun at the students.
 
After taking the students’ money, the driver got back into the vehicle, which appeared to have multiple passengers. The driver is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male around 17 or 18 years old with brown eyes, a mustache and groomed eyebrows, according to a police bulletin.  The second suspect is described as Hispanic, age 18-19, with wavy black hair with light tips, wearing an orange long-sleeved shirt.

LA MESA CREDIT UNION ROBBERY SUSPECT IN CUSTODY, CASH RECOVERED

October 3, 2020 (La Mesa) – A suspect accused of brandishing a knife and demanding cash from a teller during robbery of the Navy Federal Credit Union on Grossmont. Blvd. in La Mesa on September 30 is in custody.

After the robbery around 10:02 a.m., the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of currency. He was located driving away from the area by responding La Mesa Police Department officers and followed to the 4500 block of Winona Avenue in San Diego, where a traffic stop was initiated.

PHARMACY ROBBERY IN ALPINE MAY BE PART OF SERIES

June 18, 2020 (Alpine) – An investigation is underway into a robbery at a CVS in Alpine that may be part of a series of pharmacy robberies across East County. Two juveniles were apprehended.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on June 17, deputies from the Alpine Sheriff’s station responded to the CVS Pharmacy at 1385 Tavern Road after a 9-1-1 call reported a robbery. The caller said one of two suspects, armed with a cane, jumped over the counter demanding drugs and took 13 bottles of narcotics. As he fled, he swung the cane around and smashed the glass countertop. A cell phone of one of the employees was also taken, says Lieutenant Anthony O’Boyle.

The suspects fled the scene, but due to a quick response from a Sheriff's Sergeant, deputies and detectives, the suspects were located behind the Alpine library and detained,” says Lt. O’Boyle.

Victims fought back, escaped kidnapper

December 30, 2015 (Ramona) -- A man who kidnapped a baseball coach and teen player, then later carjacked a second vehicle with a Ramona grandmother inside has been arrested.  Ira Stringer was taken into custody in Riverside on Sunday after a 45-mile police chase and a two-hour SWAT stand-off, the Ramona Sentinel reports.

2 ARRESTED FOR SEPTEMBER MURDER IN EL CAJON

 

October 24, 2014 (El Cajon)—El Cajon Police announce the arrest yesterday of Paul Julian Sosa III and Homero Viscarroa Palomino.  They are charged with murder, robbery and conspiracy in the death of John Francis, 38, who died of a gunshot wound on September 18.

MOTEL ROBBED IN LA MESA

 

October 11, 2014 (La Mesa)—A masked man armed with a handgun robbed the Motel 6 at 7621 Alvarado Road in La Mesa at gunpoint last night at 9:10, La Mesa Police report. The suspect remains at large.

SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGER ROBBED

 

December 14, 2013 (Lakeside) -- This story falls into the “how low can you go” category.  On Wednesday evening, two crooks stole donations out of a red Salvation Army kettle in front of a Walmart store off Los Coches Road in Lakeside.  One thief distracted the bell ringer while his partner in crime stole about $150 to $200 in cash.

Captain Terry Masango with the Salvation Army in El Cajon said it broke his heart that someone would steal money meant to help the poor.  “If they had just come to us and said, ‘We’re hungry,’ we would have helped them,” he said, the UT San Diego reported.

SDSU STUDENTS ROBBED, ASSAULTED AT COLLEGE AVENUE

 

September 12, 2013 (San Diego) – Campus police at San Diego State University have issued a crime alert bulletin to warn students about robbers who struck a victim in the head last night.   Around 10:25 p.m.,  four males approached two SDSU students in the patio area of the Senor Poncho’s Mexican Grill  at 5100 College Avenue.  Two suspects took the victim's cell phone and fled.  The victims gave chase.  One victim was able to get his cell phone from the suspect; the other victim was struck in the head while confronting the second suspect.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY AT LA MESA MOTEL

 

May 22, 2013 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police were called to the Motel 6 at 7621 Alvarado Road regarding a robbery that had just occurred on May 20 at 2:27 a.m.  Officers found a victim suffering minor injuries from being struck in the head by two unknown suspects.  The victim reported he was robbed of his wallet and car keys by the two assailants.

The victim stated he was visiting a friend and walked out to his vehicle in the parking lot to leave.  The victim reported he was approached from behind, struck over the head, and then knocked to the ground while he was trying to get into his vehicle. The suspects, who were described as African American males, both wearing dark hooded sweatshirts, took the victim’s property and ran towards a waiting vehicle parked on Alvarado Road.  The suspects then fled the scene in that vehicle and were last seen driving east from the motel property.

ARMED ROBBERY AT USA GAS STATION IN LA MESA

March 18, 2013 – A man armed with a gun robbed the USA Gas Station located at 7594 University Avenue in La Mesa shortly after midnight March 17, 2013. The suspect entered the store, displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash. After the clerk complied, the suspect left the store on foot in an unknown direction.  Officers searched the surrounding areas but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male adult in his 30s, approximately 5’10 tall, 200 lbs, wearing a white shirt, dark pants, and a black baseball cap. The suspect also wore a white bandana covering the lower portion of his face.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AT CRICKET WIRELESS IN LA MESA

November 11, 2012 (La Mesa)--A suspect armed with a knife attempted to rob the Cricket Wireless store located at 7014 University Avenue in La Mesa. 

On November 10 around 6:27 p.m., La Mesa Police Department received a report of an attempted robbery that had just occurred at the Cricket Wireless store located at 7014 University Avenue. An employee reported that the suspect entered the store, walked behind the counter and brandished a large knife.

November 1, 2012 (La Mesa)—This morning at 1:08 a.m., La Mesa Police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 8200 block of Lemon Avenue.  The  victim, 20, said he had just left his residence and walked across the street to retrieve his wallet and cell phone that he had left in his vehicle. While the victim was sitting in his vehicle, the suspect approached the driver side and tapped on the window with a black semi-automatic handgun.

BEER ROBBERS MAKE GETAWAY IN STOLEN CAMRY

October 5, 2012 (Spring Valley)—Last night around 10:35 p.m., Lemon Grove Deputies received a radio call reporting a strong arm robbery at the 7-11 store at 103 Worthington St. in Spring Valley. One suspect was a Hispanic male with a large build, shaved head, goatee, and multiple tattoos, wearing a white tank top and black shorts. The second suspect was a Hispanic female, average build, wearing a black tee-shirt and black spandex pants. Both suspects entered the store and selected one 18-pack of Miller light and one 18-pack of Bud light.

POLICE SEEK SUSPECTS IN GOLD SEDAN FOLLOWING ROBBERY AT KNIFEPOINT IN LA MESA

September 29, 2012 (La Mesa)—A man waiting at a bus stop in the 5200 block of Baltimore Drive in La Mesa reported that he was robbed at knife point at 6:05 this morning.  The victim told police that a gold-four door sedan pulled up by the bus stop. A man with a goatee got out and held a knife to the victim’s side while a woman grabbed the victim’s backpack.

September 24, 2012 (La Mesa)—A man who reportedly robbed the 7Q Liquor Store at 7401 El Cajon Blvd. in La Mesa at gunpoint is in custody tonight, thanks to the actions of a clerk and other witnesses.  Police apprehended Luis Alonso Cruz Magana, 24, of San Diego in the 4800 block of Jessie Avenue shortly after the robbery.

May 17, 2012 (La Mesa) – Zane Holloway, 18, has been arrested for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon after injuring a Walmart employee with a knife. La Mesa Police Department received a radio call at 3:45 p.m. yesterday of a robbery that occurred at Walmart in Grossmont Center Employees reported a male suspect attempted to leave Walmart without paying for merchandise.

February 5, 2012 (La Mesa)--A suspect who claimed to be armed robbed the 7-11 at 4253 Palm Avenue early this morning. 
An employee reported that the suspect entered the store around 2:51 a.m., approached the counter, and simulated holding a gun beneath a towel.
