June 17, 2010 (La Mesa) -- The City of La Mesa, working with the Institute for Public Strategies, is hosting a community forum on sex registrants and the exploitation of children on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 6:30-8:00 PM. The forum is open to the public and will be held at the La Mesa Community Center, 4975 Memorial Drive, La Mesa.

POLICE SEEK THIEVES WHO TRIED TO STEAL ATM IN LA MESA

 

April 7, 2010 (La Mesa) Around 4:40  this morning, two suspects used a vehicle to break into the La Mesa Mailboxes business in the 8200 block of La Mesa Boulevard. Suspects backed up into the business several times with their vehicle and caused major damage. There was no loss,  but the potential target was the automatic teller machine (ATM) inside.

 

A witness described the suspect vehicle as a white Dodge Ram truck with a gray tailgate and a partial plate of “6U8.” The driver was not identified, but the passenger was described as a white male in his 50s, 5 foot, nine inches tall with a heavy build and wearing a flannel shirt.

PUBLIC WARNED OF FEMALE BURGLAR USING PHONY STORY TO ENTER HOMES

April 6, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police have issued a warning to the public about a woman who tricked an elderly woman into letting her inside, then stole her purse. Similar crimes have occurred in the Lake Murray area of San Diego just north of La Mesa. The suspect is a tall African-American, age 40-45, weighing 200 pounds and driving a “nice vehicle” in a dark color, possibly green.

VEHICLE BURGLARY SUSPECT ARRESTED IN LA MESA

 

 

March 28, 2010 – Sokin Roberts, 19, of La Mes has been arrested and charged with burglary and possession of stolen property. Roberts reportedly used a large rock to break a window of a vehicle at 8464 Echo Drive and steal property.

LA MESA POLICE ARREST MAN IN STRANGER STALKING CASE, SEEK MORE VICTIMS

 

 

March 17, 2010 (La Mesa) – Oraha Oraha (same first and last name) was arrested around 8 p.m. last night by La Mesa Police for stalking a 24 year old woman. She worked in the 8500 block of Fletcher Parkway.

 

A security guard working in the 8600 block had been alerted about previous stalking allegations. He saw Oraha’s green 1992 Camry station wagon, license plate CA #3WUL388, and notified authorities who arrested Oraha. Police suspect he may have stalked others in the area.

GUNMAN ROBS ATM CUSTOMER AT BANK IN LA MESA

 

 

March 15, 2010 (La Mesa) – A man sitting on the curb outside Wachovia Bank at 5610 Lake Murray Boulevard Friday afternoon waited as a customer withdrew money from the ATM machine, then displayed a handgun and demanded the money. The victim handed over the cash and the suspect fled northbound in traffic lanes of Baltimore Drive.

COPS FIND “KEYS” TO BUNGLED BURGLARY

 

March 14, 2010 (La Mesa) – Two brothers who robbed a car rental business, then dropped their own car keys as they fled, have been arrested by La Mesa Police.  Officials are now invetigating to determine whether the pair may have been responsible for other commercial break-ins.

3 ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER FOLLOWING FIGHT AT NORTHMONT PARK IN LA MESA

 

March 10, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police has arrested Anthony Long, 19, of El Cajon and two juvenile males from El Cajon and Santee for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The assault occurred on March 6 at Northmont Park in LA Mesa.

The suspects were arrested after search warrants were obtained and searches conducted on three homes in East County. According to the police investigation, two groups of young men got into a phone argument over a girl following a party in El Cajon, then agreed to meet at Northmont Park for a fight.

THREE ROBBERIES FRIDAY IN LA MESA

 

February 28, 2010 (La Mesa) –A Circle K Store was robbed at gunpoint Friday at 11 p.m. Earlier on the same date, two young men robbed, punched and kicked a juvenile on Spring Street. In yet another incident, a youth was robbed of a cell phone by five men at Water Street and Amaya Drive in La Mesa.

PURSE SNATCHERS NABBED

 

February 4, 2010 (La Mesa) -- La Mesa Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery of a woman at Grossmont Center on January 21st.   The victim suffered a cut on her hand when a suspect attempted to slice the strap of her purse to steal it.

2 ARCO ROBBERS ARRESTED; LA MESA POLICE SEEK 3 ACCOMPLICES

 

Januuary 24, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police have arrested two men suspected of robbing an Arco AM/PM store on Massachusetts Street on January 22nd. Punckey Donnell, 23, of Lemon Grove and Devon Brown, 27 of San Diego were booked into San County Jail for robbery. Three other unknown suspects fled in a blue Honda and have not yet been apprehended.

LA MESA GAS STATION ROBBED AT GUNPOINT; REWARD OFFERED

 

January 18, 2009 (La Mesa) At approximately 1:31 this morning, La Mesa Police received a report of a robbery at the Arco Station at 9600 Murray Drive. A white male suspect entered the store and displayed a black semi-automatic handgun, demanding money and cigarettes. The clerk handed the suspect an undetermined amount of money from the register and a pack of cigarettes.

The clerk followed the suspect out of the store and saw him get into a white newer model sedan, then drive off west on Murray Drive.

ROBBERY TRAINING FOR BUSINESSES OFFERED BY FBI & LA MESA POLICE

The La Mesa Police Department, in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is hosting a training class for all commercial businesses. It is the goal of the La Mesa Police Department to provide training on the proper safety procedures to follow before, during, and after a robbery. Robbery prevention will also be discussed.

SHOPPER ASSAULTED OUTSIDE TARGET STORE

 

November 18, 2009 (La Mesa) – A 54-year-old woman was punched in the face yesterday at 5:51 p.m. while watching another woman yell at a young child outside the Target Store in Grossmont Center, La Mesa Police report. The victim was in the parking lot when she stopped to observe the incident. According to police, she was about to walk away when she was assaulted. The victim was transported by ambulance to Grossmont Hospital for treatment.

Police seek the public’s help to identify the suspect, shown on a surveillance camera.  She wore a black jacket with fur hood, dark pants, mult-colored shirt, and white boots.

HEROIN DEALER BUSTED IN LA MESA

 

October 21 (La Mesa) -- On October 20, La Mesa Police Department’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) arrested a man for possessing heroin for sale, growing marijuana, and possession of guns relating to narcotics. Mathew McKinney, 25 years old, was arrested after police received several tips from concerned citizens that there were possible narcotics sales occurring from the apartment complex at 7506 Parkway Drive.

MAN ROBBED OF PANTS IN LA MESA

 

October 6, 2009 (La Mesa) – Two men robbed a transient of his pants and wallet on October 4 at approximately 9:32 p.m. One suspect was located by La Mesa Police officers within minutes after the robbery and assault. The second suspect, a Hispanic man who goes by the name "Alexi," is still outstanding. He is described as approximately 21 years old, weighing 165 pounds.

HELIX CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR CONTRIBUTING TO DELINQUENCY OF A MINOR

October 6, 2009 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police are conducting an investigation into a Helix Charter High School assistant principal in a case involving a runaway female student.

“We hope to finish our investigation this week and forward to the District Attorney with a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor,” La Mesa Police Lieutenant David Bond told East County Magazine.
