LA MESA POLICE SAY "NO" TO SPEEDERS

March 2, 2013 (La Mesa) – The La Mesa Police Department, in an effort to keep everyone safe, was aggressively enforcing the state’s speed laws during the fourth “Traffic Safety Enforcement Program” operation, which took place Saturday February 23, 2013. The program relies on heavy enforcement and public education as a means to help reduce deaths and injuries on our local roadways.

When caught speeding, driver’s often ask for just a verbal warning.  Though sometimes appropriate based on the overall circumstances, La Mesa Police Officers said “no” to that request at least 27 times and issued them speeding tickets during Saturday’s operation.  One speeding driver was also driving on a suspended driver’s license, and his vehicle was impounded.

LA MESA POLICE ISSUE 29 HOLIDAY SPEEDING CITATIONS

 

January 21, 2013 (La Mesa)--La Mesa Police Department, in an effort to reduce injuries and deaths on the Martin Luther King holiday, aggressively enforced state speed laws during the third “Traffic Safety Enforcement Program“ operation. uce deaths and injuries on local roadways.

La Mesa Police Officers wrote 29 speeding tickets including one to a driver traveling at 81 miles per hour on a city street with a posted speed limit of 35 mph.

ARMED ROBBER IN SANTA HAT NABBED IN LA MESA

December 21, 2012 (La Mesa) - A man wearing a Santa cap entered the Murray Lake Liquor Store in La Mesa today not bearing gifts nor seeking holiday cheer. Instead, he pulled a gun and ordered the clerk to handover cash from the register at 3:15 p.m. today. 

According to witnesses, the suspect also wore a black jacket, shorts, and a black bandana.  After stealing the cash, the man in the Santa cap departed the store at 5395 Lake Murray Boulevard not in a sleigh, but in a dark grey Mazda-6 heading north.

LA MESA POLICE APPREHEND VEHICLE BURGLARS AT GROSSMONT CENTER

November 23, 2012 (La Mesa)—At 4:07 a..m. Grossmont Center’s mall security observed a suspicious vehicle in the mall parking lot. Two male subjects were observed tampering with a vehicle before leaving in a silver two--door sedan. Grossmont Security relayed the information to La Mesa Police and officers searched the area and surrounding streets but were initially unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

WOMAN DRAGGED, INJURED IN ROBBERY AT GROSSMONT CENTER

November 5, 2012 (La Mesa)—A woman walking in the parking lot with her children near Fudrucker’s in Grossmont Center was robbed of her purse by two suspects in 1990s tan Saturn two-door car.  The passenger leaned out the window and grabbed the victim’s purse, dragging her on the ground several feet before she was able to release her grasp.  The victim was transported to a hospital with a wrist injury.

A search of the area by La Mesa PD and San Diego Sheriff’s ASTREA did not locate the suspects, who remain outstanding.

LA MESA MAN ROBBED AT GUNPOINT

November 1, 2012 (La Mesa)—This morning at 1:08 a.m., La Mesa Police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 8200 block of Lemon Avenue.  The  victim, 20, said he had just left his residence and walked across the street to retrieve his wallet and cell phone that he had left in his vehicle. While the victim was sitting in his vehicle, the suspect approached the driver side and tapped on the window with a black semi-automatic handgun.

BARRICADED SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED IN LA MESA

October 8, 2012 (La Mesa)—Last night at 9:06 p.m., La Mesa Police responded to a report that a man had pushed a woman in the 4200 block of Lowell Avenue.  During the investigation, it was determined that the male had an active felony warrant for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender and was still inside the residence.

Officers spoke to the suspect, Michael Wilson, through the locked screen door for several minutes, but he refused to come out.  According to police, Wilson, 46, made verbal threats to the officers that he had a weapon and would not come out without a fight.

ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION REPORTED NEAR HELIX HIGH

August 17, 2012 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police have issued a warning that a man in a “beat up” white small or medium pickup truck attempted to lure a 16-year-old female student into his vehicle. The girl was walking to Helix High School at 8 a.m. today in the 7500 block of University Ave. when the suspect pulled up next to her, got out of his truck and told her, “Hey, get in my car.”

POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN "HIT AND RUN" BANDITS SERIES

August 10, 2012 (San Diego)--Detectives from the San Diego Police Department’s Robbery Unit have arrested a man suspected of being the mastermind of a criminal enterprise that included a series of strong arm robberies throughout the county. Cedric Johnson, 33, was arrested on August 7 in Los Angeles at his parole agent’s office.

SCISSORS-WIELDING SUSPECT ROBS AM/PM STORE IN LA MESA

 

 
July 9, 2012 (La Mesa) – This morning at 1:46 a.m., La Mesa Police responded to a report of a robbery at the AM/PM at 4925 Spring Street in the city of La Mesa.

According to the police, the clerk told officers that he was working behind the registers when the suspect walked into the store and demanded cash. When the clerk told the suspect that he didn’t believe he had a gun, the suspect pulled a pair of scissors from his pocket and walked behind the cash register counter.

July 6, 2012 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police today announced the arrest of Darron Willams, 19, a transient accused of hurling a bottle bomb at a trolley station in La Mesa on July 3 shortly before 8 p.m. The device, a 16-ounce plastic bottle filled with magnesium and water, exploded at the Spring Street Trolley Station at 4250 Spring Street.

May 19, 2012 (La Mesa) –La Mesa Police and the San Diego County Sheriff’s helicopter are searching El Cajon Blvd. and Williamsburg and vicinity for a vandalism suspect armed with a knife.  The suspect is a white, unshaven male with brown hair, wearing a blue or gray T-shirt and shorts.

March 24, 2012 (La Mesa) – A search is on in La Mesa for an armed robbery suspect in the vicinity of 8601 Fletcher Parkway near the Grossmont Trolley.  All trolleys have been stopped due to activity on the tracks, according to La Mesa Police.

Incident Page Network reports that the search involves a Sheriff’s helicopter and San Diego Police Department canine, around 11 p.m.

DAYTIME ROBBERY AT LA MESA DENNY’S

November 16, 2011 (La Mesa)—A man robbed the Denny’s Restaurant at 4235 Spring Street in La Mesa today at 1:32 p.m. According to La Mesa Police, the suspect presented a note demanding money and simulated a handgun under his clothing, then fled with the cash. He was described as a white male, 30-35 years old, 6 feet tall, 200 lbs., wearing a green hat, beige colored pullover sweatshirt and jeans.
