September 2, 2016 (San Diego) - Redshirt senior Travis Nicklaw scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute on Friday to lift the No. 23 San Diego State men’s soccer team to a monumental 1-0 victory over top-ranked Akron in the team’s 2016 home opener at SDSU Sports Deck. With the win, the Aztecs remain unbeaten on the year at 2-0-1, while the Zips suffered their first defeat of the season, slipping to 2-1 overall.

September 2, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State, which played with 10 players for more than half the game, fell to cross-town foe San Diego, 2-0, at Torero Stadium on Friday night. The loss dropped the Aztecs 0-3 on the season, while USD moved to 2-2.

August 30, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State football head coach Rocky Long and redshirt sophomore quarterback Christian Chapman, linebacker Calvin Munson and offensive lineman Nico Siragusa held a press conference today at SDSU.  They talked about Saturday's upcoming season opener against the University of New Hampshire.

August 29, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State women’s rowing head coach Bill Zack announced the hiring Monday of Bobbie Smith as assistant coach. Smith arrives on Montezuma Mesa after a prosperous four-year run with the junior rowing program at the Marina Aquatic Center in Marina Del Rey, Calif. She will be involved in all phases of the Aztec program on and off the water.

August 28, 2016 (Spokane) - Senior forward Michael Sauers scored a goal in the 11th minute on Sunday to lead the San Diego State men’s soccer team to a 1-0 triumph over Bradley in the Gonzaga Soccer Tournament at Luger Field.  With the win, the Aztecs move to 1-0-1 on the year, while the Braves slip to 0-1-1 overall.

August 28, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State dropped close matches to Michigan State and Denver on Saturday as it concluded play at the season-opening 2016 Aztec Invitational. In the morning, the Aztecs fell to the Spartans in four sets (22-25, 20-25, 26-24, 21-25) and later that evening extended Denver to five sets (17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 8-15) before coming up on the short end of a tight contest.

August 25, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State senior cornerback Damontae Kazee has been named a 2016 preseason second-team All-American by USA Today, the publication revealed on Thursday. The honor is one of many for the San Bernardino product, who was named the preseason Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

August 21, 2016 (Northridge, Ca.) - In its final tune-up of the preseason, the San Diego State men’s soccer team played host Cal State Northridge to a 0-0 draw in double overtime Sunday night at Matador Soccer Field. August 10, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State track and field alumnae Whitney Ashley and Shanieka Thomas will compete at the Rio Olympics this weekend in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ashley qualified for the Olympics by winning the discus throw at the U.S. Olympic Trials in July, while Thomas punched her ticket with a runner-up finish in the triple jump at the Jamaican Senior National Championships.

June 13, 2016 (New Orleans) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today that six San Diego State athletes have been named All-Americans due to their performance at the last stop of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship last week in Eugene, Oregon.

May 13, 2016 (San Diego)--This year's crop of San Diego State University graduates is more diverse, determined and decorated than any in its 119-year history.

Take Austin Owens. He'll receive his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and the first-ever Zahn Spirit of Innovation Award at the College of Engineering's commencement ceremony on May 14 at 5:30 p.m. Owens, who is "passionate about solving problems and making things happen against all odds," has been a four-year SDSU standout for founding the on-campus Mechantronics Club, competing in international RoboSub competitions and landing a post-graduation job at SpaceX, a space exploration company founded by Elon Musk.
