October 3, 2011 (San Diego) Update 4:50 p.m.  -- I-5 reopened moments ago after being closed from I-805 to Del Mar Heights Road, with traffic diverted onto Highway 56 for investigation into a series of shootings earlier today.

4 TRAFFIC ALERTS IN EAST COUNTY, INCLUDING A FATALITY ACCIDENT IN ALPINE


September 15, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Four breaking news incidents impacting traffic have occurred in Jacumba, Alpine, El Cajon and Escondido, including a fatality accident and another with serious injuries. Other road closures have occurred due to a gas line break and a small brush fire.

HIGHWAY 78 CLOSED IN RAMONA


September 12, 2011 (Ramona) –A semi-truck hauling a fully loaded grain trailer has overturned on Highway 78 and Rancho Sante Fe Court. A SIG alert has been issued. As of 3:31 p.m., the CHP website reports Highway 78 will be shut down for at least two hours between Julian Road and 3 Road to cleanup the roadway.

 

There are no reported injuries in the accident.

August 25, 2011 (La Mesa) 9:15 a.m. -- A SIG ALERT has been issued for I-8 westbound due to a multi-vehicle accident just west of Fletcher Parkway in La Mesa.

August 16, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) –A Sig Alert has been issued for northbound 125 at Spring Street, where a vehicle rolled over, blocking lanes and a dog has reportedly been injured.

 

There is also a hazardous fuels spill on Highway 94 at Dulzura Café reported at 1:19 p.m.

SUICIDE OFF BRIDGE IN LEMON GROVE: HIGHWAY 94 CLOSED

 

Update: The victim has been identified as Wesley Stewart Grove, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner. No other information has yet been released.

BIG-RIG PLUNGES OFF I-15, KILLING DRIVER


August 1, 2011 (San Diego) –Witnesses reported that a big-rig with an empty trailer for hauling automobiles zig-zagged across several lanes of traffic before plummeting over the side of I-15. The vehicle came to rest on Murphy Canyon Road in front of Wal-Mart at 6:40 a.m.

94 EAST TO CLOSE AT SR-125 ON SATURDAY MORNING

 


July 22, 2011 (San Diego)-- Eastbound State Route 94 will be closed at State Route 125 on Saturday morning, July 23 from 4 until 8:30 for guardrail repair, according to the California Department of Transportation.

SIG ALERT ON I-15 AT GOPHER CANYON DUE TO FIRE

July 4, 2011 (Bonsall) – Cal-Fire is on the scene of a fire that is now 4 to 5 acres. A motorhome fire reported at 3:05 p.m. at Gopher Canyon Road and I-15 north of Escondido, near the community of Bonsall spread into the brush. No structures are threatened, however a SIG ALERT has been issued for traffic on I-15.

2 ACCIDENTS, BRUSH FIRE SNARL TRAFFIC ON I-8 IN EAST COUNTY

 

June 29, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Expect traffic delays if you are traveling on I-8 through east County this afternoon. A two-car rollover on I-8 east at Pine Valley Road sparked a brush fire, forcing 150 cars to be turned around at Sunrise Highway and diverted onto Old Highway 80. The U.S. Forest Service is currently mopping up that blaze.
 

In addition, on I-8 near Crestwood Drive, further east, a vehicle has rolled three times and is on its side in the center divider, according to the San Diego SIG Alerts website.

RESCUE IN PROGRESS: I-8 WEST NEAR 94


June 20, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – The driver of an SUV that plunged over an embankment off I-8 westbound just west of Highway 94 is trapped, CHP’s website reports. According to Incident Page Network, the SUV plummeted 100 feet and a second vehicle is involved; a medical helicopter has been ordered to the scene.

NORTHBOUND RAMP FROM I-15 TO 94 CLOSED DUE TO FATALITY

Update:  The victim has been identified as a Cal-Trans worker who was clearing debris from the lane.

 

June 20, 2011 (San Diego)—A pedestrian has been struck and killed on the on-ramp from I-15 northbound to Highway 94 eastbound, Incident Page Network reports. The ramp is closed to traffic and a SIG Alert has been issued.

100 MPH CRASH ON I-8 IN LAKESIDE

June 9, 2011 (Lakeside) – A driver is unconscious but breathing following a 100-mph crash into a tree on I-8 eastbound just east of Los Coches Road. The vehicle reportedly had a blow-out and lost control , according to the CHP webpage.

SIG ALERT ON I-15 FROM SEMI-TRUCK ACCIDENT

 

May 3, 2011 (San Diego) - A SIG Alert is in effect on I-15 north of Carroll Canyon Road, where a multi-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck and at least three cars occurred this morning.  The truck, which was carrying a load of water, lost its rear axles.  Lanes are closed while awaiting heavy equipment to remove the semi-truck, according to CHP and San Diego SIG Alerts.

May 3, 2011 (Pine Valley) 12:17 p.m. -- CHP has just received a report of a bridge-jumper at the Pine Valley Bridge on I-8.  It is unclear whether the individual has actually jumped; use caution if you are driving in this area as a freeway closure may occur.

POSSIBLE BOMB AT CORONADO BRIDGE: BOMB-ARSON SQUAD CALLED OUT

 

Update:  The freeway is reopened. The device found was a pipe sealed at both ends containing inert military ordnance, NBC news reports. It is unknown how the object wound up in this location.

May 2, 2011 (San Diego) 9:30 a.m. - A possible pipe bomb has forced closure of I-5 southbound at the Coronado Bridge, Incident Page Network reports.  San Diego Police, San Diego Fire Department and the Bomb/Arson squad has been summoned.  A SIG Alert has been issued and all traffic is being diverted, San Diego SIG alerts confirms.

I-8 EAST CLOSED AT BUCKMAN SPRINGS


April 28, 2011 (Buckman Springs) – A driver is trapped in a vehicle following a rollover accident on I-8 east at Buckman Springs near the Border Patrol checkpoint as of 12:48 p.m. , CHP and IPN report. The roadway is closed due to debris and am ambulance is en route, along with Border Patrol.

HIGHWAY 94 SHUT DOWN AT HONEY SPRINGS ROAD

 

 

Update 2:30 p.m.:  SDG&E reports power is out to under 100 homes in this area.

 

April 17, 2011 (Jamul) – A vehicle that struck a power pole and caught fire has resulted in shut-down of Highway 94 in both directions at Honey Springs Road in Jamul. According to the CHP, there are live wires down across the roadway and SDG&E is en route, as of 1:47 p.m.

TRASH TRUCK OVERTURNED IN LAKESIDE; HAZMAT TEAM EN ROUTE

April 18, 2011 (Lakeside) – An EDCO trash truck has overturned at 11206 Valle Vista Road in Lakeside. The accident was reported at 11:45 a.m. The truck is now leaking large amounts of diesel fuel from saddle tanks, Incident Page Network reports. According to the CHP, a Hazmat team has been dispatched and is en route to the scene.

MOUTAIN BIKE FATALITY: SIG ALERT ON HIGHWAY 52 WESTBOUND

 

April 14, 2011 (Santee) -- A SIG alert was issued shorterly after 4:30 p.m. on westbound Highway 52 near Mast.  According to the CHP website, an 18-speed mountain bike was spotted near a guardrail with a cord dangling.  Emergency responders found the rider had fallen over the embankment and was pronounced dead at the scene.

SHOOTINGS OF TWO MOTORISTS ON 163 PUT POLICE ON ALERT, DRIVERS ON EDGE

 

April 7, 2011 (San Diego) – California Highway Patrol officers are on heightened alert after two shootings around 7:10 a.m. this morning on Highway 163 in Kearny Mesa. One shot wounded a USD student and another bullet lodged in a vehicle owned by a Rancho Bernardo man.

 

Police shut down the freeway and found about 10 shell casings from a small-caliber gun along the side of the freeway between the Clairment Mesa and Balboa exits. There is no evidence to indicate that either victim was targeted.

March 25, 2011 (San Diego) – An armed suspect at San Diego Police headquarters has led police to call for non-lethal forces, Incident Page Network reports. According to ECM news partner 10 News, the man is armed with a knife and mentally unstable.

FATALITY CRASH IN LAKESIDE, POWERLINE DOWN IN RAMONA ROADWAY

February 21, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Two serious accidents have occurred tonight in East County. Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside is closed down due to a fatality accident at Mile Marker 1, as of 9:45 p.m. reported by Incident Page Network. In Ramona, power lines are reported down in the road and sparking on Vista Ramona Road at Timber Passage, according to the CHP website at 10:49 p.m.
