FLEEING SUSPECT HITS VEHICLE, THEN CAUSES DEPUTIES TO COLLIDE IN LAKESIDE

December 11, 2019 (Lakeside) – Sheriff’s deputies in Lakeside received a call reporting a man in a vehicle holding a gun in the 9600 block of Marilla Drive last night around 5:25 p.m.  When deputies arrived, the suspect fled at a high rate of speed and a short pursuit ensued.

The suspect ran a stop sign and struck a civilian vehicle, but kept going. “The suspect came to an abrupt stop in the middle of Lakeshore Drive, causing the pursuing deputies to collide with one another as well as the suspect vehicle,” says Sergeant Amber Reeves.

TWO YOUNG PEOPLE KILLED IN LAKESIDE CRASH; DRIVER CHARGED WITH MURDER

April 25, 2014 (Lakeside) – San Diego residents Carlos Kristopher Vargas and Monica Yvette Lupercio, each 20 years old , died of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident April 19 on westbound Interstate 8  near the Lake Jennings exit in Lakeside.  Vargas and Lupercio  were passengers in the backseat, both wearing seatbelts when the vehicle drifted into the median. 

The driver , Mario Alberto Carranza, had a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit. Because of a prior DUI on his record, Carranza has been charged with murder. He pled not guilty and his hearing is set for May 1st.

21-YEAR-OLD MAN KILLED IN HEAD-ON CRASH IN LAKESIDE

June 23, 2013 (Lakeside) – A head-on collision late last night on Lake Jennings Road just west of El Monte Road in Lakeside resulted in two dramatic rescues and one fatality.  The crash involved a four-door Altima sedan and a four-door Jeep.

Sheriff’s deputies were first on the scene and extinguished a fire in the Altima. Lakeside Fire Protection District arrived to find two patients trapped in their vehicles and another who had self extricated.  Lakeside resident Harold Wise IV, 21, the driver of the Altima, was pronounced dead at the scene.

ALPINE OWNER OF GYMNASTICS BUSINESS ARRESTED IN FATAL DRUNK DRIVING CRASH

 

January 19, 2013 (Alpine) – Jeremiah Smith, 38, of Alpine has been arrested for suspected drunk driving after striking and killing a man beside I-8 in Lakeside. He is the owner of Gym Trix  and Rocket Cheerleading in Alpine, ECM has learned.

The victim, a Mexicali resident, was driving a Chevy Astro minivan towing a Toyota west of Lake Jennings Park Road with his wife following in a Toyota at 4:10 a.m.  One of the vehicles had mechanical trouble. Both pulled over and the man exited his vehicle.  He was standing by his wife’s car when the GMC 2500 driven by Smith struck the Toyota, pushing it into the victim.

MAJOR ACCIDENT IN LAKESIDE

September 5, 2011 (Lakeside) - A major accident has occurred at 12820 Wildcat Canyon Road, near Old Barona Road south of the Barona Casino in Lakeside.  According to Incident Page Network, a vehicle struck a tree and there are major injuries, with a person trapped inside.

100 MPH CRASH ON I-8 IN LAKESIDE

June 9, 2011 (Lakeside) – A driver is unconscious but breathing following a 100-mph crash into a tree on I-8 eastbound just east of Los Coches Road. The vehicle reportedly had a blow-out and lost control , according to the CHP webpage.

MOTORIST KILLED IN LAKESIDE

March 23, 2011 (Lakeside) 11:39 p.m. – A single car rollover accident tonight on San Vicente trapped a driver’s arm beneath the vehicle, Incident Page Network reports. The driver was later pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner is en route and San Vicente has been closed down between Wildcat Canyon Road and Arena, CHP's website reports. No further details are yet available.

MURDER ON HIGHWAY 67? DEATHS NOW INVESTIGATED AS HOMICIDES

June 30, 2010 (Lakeside) – San Diego Sheriff’s Department today announced that it is investigating the deaths of two women found yesterday as homicides. The bodies were found approximately a mile and a half north of Slaughterhouse Canyon off the eastbound side of Highway 67 in Lakeside after a neighboring property owner reported that he had found a dark blue vehicle that plunged 200 to 300 feet down an embankment.

2 DEAD IN HIGHWAY 67 CRASH WITH "SUSPICIOUS EVIDENCE"

June 29, 2010 (Lakeside) – An accident  has claimed two lives on Highway 67 near Slaughterhouse Canyon Road in Lakeside. According to the California Highway Patrol, a dark blue vehicle plummeted 200 to 300 feet down an embankment before landing upside down.

March 7, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Three serious accidents have been reported this afternoon in East County, including a head-on collision and possible fatality on Wildcat Canyon Road and an overturned vehicle on fire on State Route 67.

HEAD-ON COLLISION IN LAKESIDE INJURES 3

 

 

February 6, 2010 (Lakeside) - A high-speed, head-on traffic collision with entrapment on a rain-slicked road brought a multi-agency response to Lake Jennings Park Road in Lakeside.  Crews used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the front seat passenger of one vehicle. Firefighter/paramedics provided advanced life support care and transported a total of three patients to the trauma centers at Sharp Memorial and Scripps Mercy hospitals.
