San Diego-based humanitarian organization launches 2012 gift-giving catalog to promote worldwide health and economic empowerment programs
 
November 17, 2011 (San Diego) -- PCI (Project Concern International) launched its 2012 symbolic gifts catalog, Gifts of Life. The catalog allows the public to give unique gifts that support PCI’s global programs and the people they reach in some of the most impoverished regions of the world.

COUNTY AWARDED CALFRESH PARTICIPATION GRANT

September 30, 2011 (San Diego) -- The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) has been awarded a nationally competitive grant of nearly $900,000 to improve the processing time of CalFresh applications through increased use of technology. The grant is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s effort to support programs like CalFresh (formerly known as food stamps.)

Health and Human Services Agency Awarded Grant to Help Create a Healthier Community  


   
September 29, 2011 (San Diego) -- The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) was awarded a grant of over $3 million for prevention of chronic disease in San Diego. Today’s grant award has the potential to bring over $15 million to the region over the next 5 years. This is the second largest Community Transformation Grant awarded to a county government in the nation.

WHOOPING COUGH DISEASE STILL GOING STRONG

 

County urges vaccinations for children

June 2, 2011 (San Diego County) --Five new pertussis cases where others may have been exposed to the disease increased the local case total to 212 this year, the SAn Diego County Health and HUman Services said in Late May. The new confirmed cases occured in schools across the region, including Ramona, Poway, and San Diego schools. In 2010 , pertussis, also known as whooping cough, reached a record 1,144 cases for the county, including two infant deaths.
