December 6, 2009 (San Diego) – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for recently burned areas of Southern California and lists the 2007 Poomacha burn area among the most vulnerable locations. Heavy rains of one inch per hour are forecast, capable of producing debris flows in and below burn areas from noon Monday until 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Other areas included in the flash flood watch are San Diego County mountains, as well as mountain and valley areas in San Bernadino and Riverside County, as well as Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills. Areas below lands burned in the Sheep, Oak Glen, Pendleton, Cottonwood and Poomacha Fires are listed as most vulnerable to flash flooding and debris flows.

December 4, 2009 (El Cajon) -- The City of El Cajon has been working on a master plan for the Civic Center area that will include major renovations to the East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC) including closure of the theater for up to two years. The City iwill be hosting two community forums to share goals of the renovation and to receive community input on desired renovations to the theater.

December 2, 2009 – Local peace activists are staging rallies to protest President Obama’s announcement yesterday to increase troops in Afghanistan. Organizers say that funds would be better spent to address serious domestic issues, such as the healthcare crisis, unemployment, and more.

San Diego Coalition for Peace & Justice (SDCPJ) plans a rally this evening from 5 to 6 p.m. outside Congresswoman Susan Davis’ office at the intersection of University Avenue and Fairmont Avenue in City Heights. Davis has posted a poll on her website  asking constituents their views on the troop surge. An additional candlelight vigil is being planned by the Ramona Forum tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at 10th and Main Street in Ramona.

November 28, 2009 (Alpine) -- A traffic advisory has been issued on I-8 east of Alpine to the San Diego County line, due to multiple minor injury traffic collisions related to weather conditions. A light snow is falling in the area, but is not sticking, Incident Page Network reports early this afternoon.

November 26, 2009 (El Cajon) On this Thanksgiving Day, a motorist in El Cajon can be thankful he survived a freak accident that left his vehicle beneath a  plane at Gillespie Field.  Just after 4:00 p.m. yesterday, the 57 year-old driver traveling northbound on Johnson Avenue, just north of Bradley Avenue, apparently passed out behind the wheel. He then crashed through a fence near Golden State Flying Club at Gillespie Field into a row of parked planes, destroying two 152 Cessna’s and slightly damaging a third plane. When the driver awoke, his truck was under one of the planes.

November 25, 2009 (San Diego County)--Sheriff William D. Gore announced today a county-wide Holiday Watch Program beginning Wednesday, November 25, 2009 and continuing through Sunday, January 3, 2010. The purpose of Holiday Watch is to provide a safe, secure, crime free environment during the holiday period. The Sheriff’s Holiday Watch program will consist of both education and enforcement. A schedule and locations of enforcement actions for seatbelt laws, drunk driving stops and more is included below.

Nov. 23, 2009 (El Cajon) -  The County animal shelter seeks a good home for Juliet and Sweet Pea, a cat and kitten that have formed an inseparable bond while being nursed back to health from injuries.

November 21, 2009 (Lakeside) The Santee COPPS Unit, Santee Sheriff Crime Prevention and 50 community service workers provided through Cal-Trans started a large scale clean up of transient encampments in open space southeast of Old Highway 80 and Pecan Park Drive in Lakeside on November 12th. Prior to the clean up, approximately 15 arrests had been made on and around the property.

November 20, 2009 (Fallbrook) -- A fruit stripping and cutting operation in Fallbrook has lead to the discovery of 68 Mediterranean fruit fly larvae.

November 18, 2009 (Santee) -- On November 17, Santee traffic deputies, school resource officers, juvenile detectives and the COPPS Unit conducted a teen driver compliance detail. Special attention was given to drivers near schools. Drivers were stopped and cited for various traffic violations including use of cell phones, not wearing seat belts, violation of provisional license restrictions and equipment violations.

Within the first 90 minutes, 27 citations and 36 violations issued near Santana High School. During the lunch hour, 9 citations and 14 violations were issued near West Hills High School.

November 18, 2009 (San Diego)-SigAlerts have been issued following  serious accidents on area freeways this evening including I-8, I-805, and SR 163. 

Update 2:40 p.m.  Traffic is now moving without delay in this location, IPN has informed ECM.

November 17, 2009 (Bonsall) - A traffic alert has been issued around 12:30 p.m. today following death of a man who jumped off an overpass at I-15 southbound near old highway 395 near Bonsall, north of Escondido, Incident Protection Network reports.  California Highway Patrol and Escondido Police are at the scene.  

November 16, 2009 (San Diego’s East County) – A series of water main breaks in East County over the weekend have led some area residents to ask what’s caused so many infrastructure failures.

On Friday, November 13th, a water main break at the corner of La Mesa Blvd. and 4th Street sent large amounts of water flowing down La Mesa Blvd. and Allison Ave., causing damage to at least two businesses including the new Bella Mesa Art Gallery. Heartland Fire dispatched a response at 11:29 a.m. Fire crews closed roads and evacuated some businesses and restaurants. But damage could have been worse.
