November 25, 2018 (San Diego) - Drug cartels are using teens to smuggle a variety of contraband across the border. But once a teen has been caught at the border smuggling drugs and is on the law enforcement radar, drug cartels use them for another illegal purpose: recruiting.

October 11, 2016 (La Mesa) - Yesterday, the Live Well San Diego East Leadership Team Substance Abuse Prevention Subcommittee put together a community forum (#UThinkUKnowWeed) to educate the public on adolescents using marijuana. The event was held in the Grossmont Healthcare District conference center. There was a panel of five individuals who had stories to share and statistics to give regarding adolescents using marijuana.

LEMON GROVE ACADEMY HOSTS FIRST UNDERAGE DRINKING FORUM ON MARCH 21

March 18, 2013 (Lemon Grove) -- Lemon Grove Academy hosts its first Underage Drinking Forum for parents and students. Phil Hubbs, from the Proactive Network Against Substance Abuse (PRONASA), will be presenting information to parents about current drug and alcohol trends among youth. Additional speakers include: M.A.D.D., Friday Night Live, Lemon Grove Academy parents and students.

Students will participate in break-out sessions with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) and Friday Night Live to learn about the dangers of drugs and underage drinking. Families are invited to arrive at 5:30 p.m. for a complimentary dinner before presentations begin. The event will be held at the Lemon Grove Academy, 7866 Lincoln Street, on Thursday, March 21 with dinner at 5:30 and presentations from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

HOOKED ON HOOKAH BARS? SHERIFF ISSUES HEALTH WARNING ON LATEST TEEN TREND

 

May 11, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Crime prevention specialist Paula Dickenson, USN retired, with the Sheriff’s substation in Alpine has issued a warning about hidden hazards of hookah lounges and bars.

 

Hookahs pose risks of hepatitis and tuberculosis transmission as well as hazards associated with tobacco and the chemicals that the tobacco contain.
