COUNTY ISSUES ADVISORIES, CLOSURE NOTICES FOR SEVERAL AREA BEACHES DUE TO CONTAMINATION

March 19, 2023 (San Diego) -- The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) has issued an advisory for all county beaches and bays due to contamination from storm runoff. This incudes closure of one coastal area and advisories cautioning of potential contamination at numerous other beaches.

STORM RUNOFF BRINGS HAZARDS TO LOCAL BEACHES

November 12, 2022 (San Diego) - The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) is warning of risks at all beaches from the Mexican border north to Carlsbad due to urban runoff from rainfall, which can cause bacteria levels to rise in ocean and bay waters. Swimming, surfing, diving and other water contact should be avoided for 72 hours after the storm.

 

Hard closures are in effect for some beaches, while advisories are in effect for others. See details below.

October 24, 2022 (San Diego) -- The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) has issued the following beach management actions for Monday, October 24, 2022 including closures of some beaches and an advisory for another due to raw sewage from Tijuana that may cause illness.

BEACHES FROM CORONADO TO BORDER CLOSED DUE TO CONTAMINATION

Update June 17, 2022  - The water contact closure orders for Coronado's beaches have been lifted.
 
June 11, 2022 (San Diego) – The weather is sweltering. But if you’re headed to the beach, avoid areas from Coronado southward. The County Department of Environmental Health and Quality has extended a water contact closure for the ocean shoreline from Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge through Imperial Beach to now include the Silver Strand state beach and Coronado Shores.
