LAST LIGHT: GALLERY SHOW AND ARTIST RECEPTION JULY 27 FEATURES WADE CLINE

 

July 24, 2011 (La Mesa) – "Last Light," the largest collection of artwork by Wade Cline will be on display at O’Dunn Fine Art in La Mesa from July 27 to August 28. In addition, the public is invited to meet the artist at a reception July 27 from 5-8 p.m.

 

Cline's oil paintings are mostly moody urban scenes of San Diego, with mid-century architecture, rainy streets, and that” low energy time right at dusk,” O’Dunn said.  Influenced by Wayne Thiebaud and Edward Hopper, Cline has exhibited at the Crocker and Barrios art galleries in Sacramento, the Pratt and La Jolla Artists' galleries in San Diego, and in "Art Alive" at the San Diego Museum of Art.

MOZART MUSIC TAKES STAGE AT EAST COUNTY YOUTH SYMPHONY CONCERT JULY 23 AT SDSU

July 23, 2011 (San Diego) -- The East County Youth Symphony will present a concert of Wolfgang Mozart symphonies No. 40 and 41 at San Diego State University (SDSU) on Saturday, July 23 at 7 p.m.

 

The program will be held at the Smith Recital Hall (SDSU campus) 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego.  Funds raised at this performance will be used to purchase music instruments for the Orchestra.

COUNTRY STAR TANYA TUCKER PERFORMS JULY 23 AT SYCUAN


July 19, 2011 (El Cajon) – Country music superstar Tanya Tucker will perform two shows on Saturday, July 23 at 6 and 8:30 p.m. at Sycuan Casino’s Showcase Theater.

 

Voted the Country Music Association’s female vocalist of the year in 1991, she had eight consecutive singles reach the Top 10 charts including “Down to My Last Teardrop,” “(Without You) What Do I Do With Me” and “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane.”

July 18, 2011 (La Mesa) – On the fourth Thursday of each month, the Space Bar Internet Café at 7454 University in La Mesa presents open mike night from 7:30 to 10 p.m with Jihmye Collins. On July 28, host Jim Moreno will welcome Jerrica Escoto and Succinct from the San Diego Slam Team. (see details below). July 8, 2011 (San Diego) - Native American Flute Players will perform this Sunday, July 10 from 1-3 p.m. at Mission Trails Regional Park.  The group of 4-9 volunteers practice on a variety of flutes in the amphitheater on the Visitor Center's back terrace from 1 to 3:00 pm on the second Sunday of each month.

June 30, 2011 (San Pasqual)--A talented troupe of Tanzanian acrobats is the newest attraction at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, performing Saturdays starting this weekend through late August.  

 
“We started in East Africa. We are all from the same village,” Konde Kalema, a member of the troupe, told East County Magazine. “We started when we were little, in school, watching Chinese acrobats and combining the Chinese arts with African traditions.”

June 21, 2011 (San Diego) -- The paintings of Chuck McPherson, an East County resident,  are often among  the winners in exhibitions  he enters. Since 2008 he has won almost forty awards for his paintings.  In the San Diego Watercolor Society's 31 Annual International Exhibition, his watercolor painting, Cantos Cove, New England ,was juried into the show, and earned McPherson Signature Status.

ANAT TOUR, EAST COUNTY’S RENAISSANCE WOMAN

June 20, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) -- East County resident Anat Tour, originally from Canada, is our community’s own Renaissance woman—a master of  mathematics, art, music, writing and much more.  By day, she is a mother of four and a math teacher at a local high school; by night, she is the lead singer for Possession, a local band. In between, she is a writer and illustrator of children’s books, as well as an animator.  She has also been an international model, which is easily discernible by her stage presence and how she carries herself.

SANTEE SUMMER CONCERTS SERIES MOVES TO NEW VENUE

 

June 10, 2011 (Santee) -- The Santee Summer Concert Series, now in its 28th year begins June 16 and features a live band from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every Thursday through August 18 (Except July 7). The series features the return of four bands that last year were crowd favorites, plus six other bands that range from doo-wop to authentic blues.

 

Bands will perform on a raised stage overlooking a lawn at the east side of Town Center Community Park just north of the former concert at Trolley Square.

WILDLIFE ART BY GLORIA CHADWICK AT EL CAJON LIBRARY IN JUNE

 

June 5, 2011 (El Cajon) – Thirty oil and acrylic paintings featuring wildlife from Africa, North America and Asia are on exhibit in a solo show by artist Gloria Chadwick during  June at the El Cajon Library.  Located at 201 East Douglas in El Cajon, the library is open seven days a week.

 

The artist has traveled to Africa and many national wildlife reserves to obtain painting resource material for her vivid and compelling works.
