November 5, 2017 (Julian) -- Christmas comes to Julian every year in an old-fashioned way with a Country Christmas Tree Lighting celebration on Saturday, November 25th to start the holiday season.  Festivities start at 2 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. including lighting of a giant Christmas tree in Pioneer Park, just one block from Julian’s historic town hall.

EAST COUNTY DINING CLUB'S NEXT SIZZLING EVENT: NOV. 10 AT ALPINE INN STEAKHOUSE

 

October 25, 2017 (Alpine) -- Alpine Inn Steakhouse (2225 Alpine Blvd., Alpine), the coziest steakhouse in East County is now reopened under new ownership -- and East County Dining Club will host our next event sizzling event there on Friday, November 10th. 

Join us for cocktails (cash bar) at 5:30 in the steakhouse bar and dinner at 6:30 in the private captain's-style dining room. Enjoy live music by Paul Nichols and Cindy Burnham, plus you can win prizes!  You don't have to be a dining club member -- all are welcome!

SUNSHINE MERMAIDS HOST ISLAND BANQUET IN LA MESA DEC. 2

November 7, 2017 (La Mesa) -- The Sunshine Mermaids, a non-profit aquatic adventure camp for girls, invites you to the islands.  Their upcoming fundraiser, an Island Banquet at the Charcoal House in La Mesa, will feature great food and beverages, local vendors, silent and live auctions, raffle prizes, entertainment, and a live performance from the Irensia Dance Troupe.  This event will be held December 2 beginning at 6 p.m. and is for adults over 21.  Tickets are $30 per person and include dinner, two drinks and one raffle ticket.  Tickets are available on Eventbrite.com (search for Island Banquet) and more information is available on their Facebook page.

October 21, 2017 (El Cajon) -- El Cajon held its sixth annual HauntFest on Main in downtown El Cajon last night, with a Ghostbusters theme this year.

I had a quite a time weaving through the crowds trying to capture the fun and energy I saw on the faces amongst everyone with my camera. There were literally thousands of people attending this ever-popular event, which can make it challenging to navigate around. One simply cannot be in a hurry to any particular destination.

JACUMBA HIKERS TREK TO CARRIZO CREEK ON SATURDAY, OCT. 21

October 18, 2017 (San Diego's East County) - On Saturday, October 21st, the Jacumba Hikers and Walkers are hitting the trail to Carrizo Creek.  This is a four-mile round trip hike rated moderate.  Hikers will be traveling a short distance on a county maintained dirt road, through a short tunnel to the “Echoing Mountains,” down a cliff to a creek bed strewn with boulders, overgrown shrubs and Tamarisk trees. Following the creek bed, you will encounter numerous pools and waterfalls.
