CROWD PIGS OUT AT GRAND OPENING OF SMOKIN’ JOES IN SANTEE

 

January 31, 2010 (Santee) – The owner of Smokin’ Joes Barbecue in Santee made a whole-hog effort to please guests at the grand opening of his new restaurant yesterday. After slow-roasting a whole pig on a spit, Joe Jones and his restaurant crew served up succulent results to a hungry crowd lined up for “pig pull” samples.

SEMPRA DONATES $50,000 TO HELP HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE SURVIVORS

 

 

January 17, 2010 – Sempra Energy Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Sempra Energy (parent company of San Diego Gas & Electric Co.) has pledged $50,000 in disaster-relief assistance funds to victims of the devastating Haitian earthquake. Sempra Energy Foundation will direct the funds through the San Diego—Imperial County Chapter of the American Red Cross International Relief Fund.

January 1, 2010 (San Diego) -- San Diego County Credit Union®, with three local East County branch offices in El Cajon, La Mesa and Santee, has been recognized for ethical business conduct with a 2009 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics from the San Diego Better Business Bureau (BBB). SDCCU received its Torch Award in the over-500-employee category.

 

SDCCU was one of 20 companies honored by the BBB for ethical business practices either as a 2009 Torch Award winner or finalists; however, SDCCU was the only financial institution that was recognized.

January 1, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) –As the holiday season ends, retailers and business are hoping that 2010 will bring better prospects and spending by consumers in San Diego and East County. So as the rest of the nation still feels the affects of a rough winter and slow-moving economy, consumers are predicted to rebound slowly over the next several months.

Even though there is some predicted economic improvement, will the public bounce back and start to spend again? Or have consumers experienced such a shock to their wallets that they have transformed into a whole new thriftier shopper which will continue for a long time?

TOYOTA OF EL CAJON HONORED BY BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU

 

December 30, 2009 (El Cajon)--Toyota of El Cajon has been honored for ethical business practices by the San Diego Better Business Bureau (BBB), San Diego's largest county wide business organization. The local auto dealership managed by brothers Gary and Greg Kaminsky was selected as a winner of a 2009 BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics in the 100-to-249 employee category. In all, 20 companies from throughout San Diego County were recently honored by the BBB either as a winner or finalist of a 2009 Torch Award, and Toyota of El Cajon was the only East County-based business to be honored.

AT&T UPGRADES HISTORIC LA MESA BUILDING

 

December 20, 2009 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting earlier this month to celebrate AT&T’s aesthetic enhancements  to its building at the corner of La Mesa Boulevard and Spring Street. Those enhancements included addition to the building's exterior of tiled mosaics depicting scenes from the company’s history.

CALIFORNIA WELCOME CENTER OPENS IN ALPINE

 

December 7, 2009 (Alpine) – San Diego East  Visitors Bureau celebrated the grand opening last week of its new office in the Viejas Outlet Center in Alpine. The site is an official California Welcome Center, providing information for tourists on attractions in East County and the San Diego region.
 

“This is the first California Welcome Center ever opened on tribal lands,” said Charlie Brown, director of Viejas Community Relations.

November 15, 2009 (Santee) – Nutrition Zone, a retailer of discount sports nutrition and weight loss products, didn’t just talk about fitness at its grand opening last weekend. Guests climbed a rock wall, jumped and bounced on giant inflatable recreation devices. On hand were fitness and nutrition experts to advise on everything from diet to exercise to shedding unwanted pounds. Not a couch potato in sight!

GARDEN FARMS MARKET CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING IN LAKESIDE

November 15, 2009 (Lakeside) - Community leaders turned out for a grand opening at Garden Fresh Market in Lakeside last weekend, where children frolicked down a giant inflatable slide as parents shopped and savored free barbecued hotdogs and tacos.

“We have more products now,” said owner Noko Kako, an Iraqi Chaldean immigrant who also owns markets in Chula Vista and San Diego. “We have a pizza restaurant—and we do delivery.” The in-store deli counter also serves up sub sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, calzones, fish and chips, shrimp baskets and more.

November 3, 2009 – “All of you had a piece of making this happen,” Santee Chamber of Commerce executive director Warren Savage said to more than 200 guests in attendance at an awards presentation held October 16th at Barona Resort.

 

In addition to naming businesses of the year, the Chamber also honored citizens ranging from a Santee teacher to a U.S. Marine unit adopted by the City of Santee.
