 December 12, 2011 (La Mesa) – David Gonzalez, 16, and his grandmother, Celia Torres, 73, have been identified by family members as the victims who perished in a fiery collision Friday on Highway 125 just south of I-8.  Gonzalez was a sophomore at Grossmont High School and hoped to join the military.

EAST COUNTY RESIDENTS AMONG 100 PROTESTERS AT “WEST COAST PORT SHUT DOWN”

December 12, 2011(San Diego) – Around 100 Occupy San Diego protesters took part locally today in a multi-state effort to shut down West Coast ports.  The protesters succeeded in preventing some trucks from off-loading cargo from ships docked at the port.

Diane Jean and Chris Clobber have been doing stand-up comedy around San Diego for decades and are the originators of the Brew HaHa Comedy nights that have been running for years. Their new radio show has been on the air for three weeks and highlights news, current events, strange occurrences, comedy, music, and the occasional serious topic. The show airs Thursday nights from 8-10, and Meyer will be the guest for the second hour, starting at 9 p.m. on December 15.

COUNTY WARNS OF POSSIBLE BEACH CONTAMINATION FROM STORM RUN-OFF

December 12, 2011 (San Diego)--The Department of Environmental Health has issued a General Advisory for the coastal waters of San Diego County due to recent rainfall. Swimmers, surfers, and other ocean users are warned that the levels of bacteria can rise significantly in ocean and bay waters, especially near storm drains, creeks, rivers, and lagoon outlets that discharge urban runoff.

TEEN STABBED IN EL CAJON


December 14, 2011 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police are seeking a young man with spiked blond hair and a goatee who reportedly stabbed an 18-year-old at 4:42 this afternoon in a suspected gang-related crime.

The suspect wore a black jacket, white T-shirt, blue jeans and black and white Converse shoes. He was described as white, age 17-20, six feet tall with weight approximately 170 pounds.

MAN'S BODY FOUND INSIDE BURNED HOME IN DESCANSO

 

December 11, 2011 (Descanso) – Firefighters have found a body inside a residence in the 24000 block of Los Terrinitos Road, after dousing a fire that engulfed the structure.  According to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office, the deceased man is believed to be the 53-year-old resident of the home.

BORDER PATROL AGENTS SEIZE SMUGGLED NARCOTICS LOADS VALUED AT OVER $680,000

December 11, 2011 (San Diego) — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to San Diego area checkpoints and highways have seized a total of $683,090 of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine since Monday. The busts included seizures in East County, with drugs found hidden in vehicles and in the soles of shoes.

HIGHWAY 125 SOUTH CLOSED TODAY FROM 9 AM TO NOON

December 14, 2011 (San Diego's East County) - State Route 125 southbound will be closed today from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

All lanes are closed at I-8, south to Lemon Avenue. In addition, two lanes are closed from Navajo to I-8.  

The closure is for a police investigation of the fatal accident that killed a Grossmont High School student David Gonzalez and his grandmother, Celia Torres last Friday.

SANTEE MOUNTAIN LION SIGHTING PROMPTS BRIEF LOCK-DOWN OF HIGH SCHOOL

December 9, 2011 (Santee) – West Hills High School in Santee was briefly locked down this morning after a caller reporting spotting a mountain lion nearby.  Fish & Wildlife officers, along with Sheriff deputies, searched the area with help from a Sheriff’s helicopter but could not locate the animal.
