SEXUAL ASSAULT AT CAMPGROUND IN ALPINE

November 16, 2016 (Alpine) -- Sheriff's Sexual Assault Detectives are investigating a sexual assault at the Ma-Tar-Awa Viejas RV Park, 25 Browns Road, Alpine, CA 91901, on the Viejas Indian Reservation.

According to Lt. Dan Brislin, a 30-year-old woman walked into the campground restroom at 5:30 a.m. yesterday and saw a man facing away from her in a stall. She entered a stall and that same man approached her from behind, said "Hey" and proceeded to sexually assault her. As the assault progressed, she asked him to not hurt her. Immediately after she said this, he stopped and fled the scene.

November 16, 2016 (San Diego) -- It’s the season to “fall” in love with a warm and fuzzy cat or dog at County Animal Services. It’s offering a “Fall in Love” half-price adoption special on Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20.

As part of a 90-day pilot project, all three of the County’s shelters are open on Sundays, except for holidays. So feel free to stop by between 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on either day and you may possibly meet the unconditional love of your life.

CLOSE RACES IN EAST COUNTY

November 16, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) -- More than a week after the election, several East County races remain too close to call, as counting of mail-in and provision ballots continues.

In the hotly contested Lemon Grove Mayoral race, Democrats George Gastil and Racquel Vasquez are battling it out at 43% and 42.25% respectively, separated by just 47 votes.  In a distant third place is Republican Teresa Rosiak, who received less than 15% of the vote.

ALPINE MAN KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH

November 16, 2016 (Alpine) — A 55-year-old Alpine man died yesterday in a solo motorcycle accident.  He was riding a Harley Davidson westbound on Japatul Road near Hidden Glen Road at 2:36 p.m. when the vehicle crossed the yellow lines onto the dirt shoulder and struck an embankment, ejecting the rider.

NURSES VOTE FOR STRIKE AT SHARP HEALTHCARE

November 15, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – Nurses may soon be going out on strike at Sharp Healthcare facilities, including Grossmont Hospital here in East County.

The union, Sharp Professional Nurses Network, overwhelmingly approved a strike, with over 98% voting to strike unless wages are raised more than the 16 to 26 percent that Sharp has proposed over the next three years.

November 15, 2016 (Lakeside) – If you love camping but don’t want to lug around camping gear, now there’s a fun new camping experience at Lake Jennings in San Diego’s East County:  tipis!

They’re spacious – each measures 20 feet in diameter, made of canvas from Colorado and pine wood poles from Montana.  Tipi (also spelled tee-pee) is a Lakota Sioux Indian word meaning “living in.” The Native Americans used buffalo hides to make their tipis, which were toted on horseback from site to site across the Great Plains.

November 15, 2016 (La Mesa) – Friends of Angie Andrus are asking for public help to locate her.  According to Esther McElroy Beish, a family friend, Andrus suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, diabetes and high blood pressure. 

She was last seen in the Lake Murray area on October 24, when her vehicle was towed.   She could be living on the streets and confused.  “We have no idea where she is or if she is okay,” says Beish.

MISSING LAKESIDE MAN MAY TRY GOING HOME TO LEMON GROVE

 

Update 8 p.m.:   Todd Perkins has been found safe in Lemon Grove.

November 14, 2016 (Lakeside)—The  Sheriff has issued a be-on-the-lookout bulletin for Todd Randolph Perkins,48.  He has been missing since 2:30 p.m.  His caretaker says he may have walked away from his home on Dorsal Drive in Lakeside.

He suffers from a medical condition that causes him to limp.  He has green tattooso on both arms. He is white with brown hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighs 130 pounds.  He has told his caretaker that he would like to return to his former home on the 7100 block of Broadway in Lemon Grove,though he does not drive.
