HIGHWAY 125 SHUT DOWN DUE TO FATALITY

Update 2 a.m. - The highway is now reopened.

October 3, 2011 (La Mesa) – A SIG Alert has been issued in La Mesa, where a pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 125 just north of I-8 near Fletcher Parkway. The driver of a Grey Honda accord notified authorities that she hit a pedestrian who was running across the freeway around 10:26 p.m. The individual was also struck by several other cars.

September 28, 2011 (La Mesa) – Bay area abstract expressionist John Krempel and his intriguing collection of oil and acrylic paintings will be in La Mesa Village tonight from 5-8 p.m. for a reception at at O’Dunn Fine Art. The public is welcome to attend, also savoring refreshments and entertainment provided by guitarists Bill Coleman.

 

San Diego Arts Guide will  be  present to launch its October-December edition, which features a Kempel painting, “Skyscrapers in the Night,” from the exhibit on the cover.

Meet the artist Sept. 28

September 6, 2011 (La Mesa) -- AbEx invades La Mesa Village! Bay area abstract expressionist John Krempel is bringing a selection of larger oil and acrylic paintings to East County for his exciting show September 7 – October 9 at O’Dunn Fine Art.  Art lovers are also invited to meet this talented artist at a reception on Wednesday, September 28 from 5-8 p.m.

 

Influenced by the 20th century San Francisco abstract expressionist movement, Krempel references the beauty of both natural and man-made landscapes in his work. He has been featured in dozens of bay area shows, and is the founder of the Temporary Artists Group (TAG), which brings emerging artists to the community. With degrees in both the arts and psychology, John's paintings dance at the interface of the physical and psychological worlds.

FIRE IN LA MESA; EVACUATIONS ORDERED

Update:  Firefighters have extinguished the fire and limited damage to $10,000. Evacuations of neighboring businesses were done and Hazmat called as a precaution, however no chemicals were found to have burned.

There are strong ties between the 9/11 heroes in New York and our own La Mesa Fire Department--forged in the fires of dual tragedies in both regions

 

September 1, 2011 (La Mesa)--The City of La Mesa will host a remembrance ceremony on the ten year anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. A memorial wreath will be placed at the 9/11 Memorial at Fire Station 12, 8844 Dallas Street.

TEEN JUMPS FROM BALTIMORE BRIDGE IN LA MESA

 

August 26, 2011 (La Mesa)—An 18-year-old woman attempted suicide Wednesday by jumping off the Baltimore bridge and landing in lanes on Interstate 8.
 

“She is alive,” Lt. Bell with La Mesa Police informed East County Magazine yesterday. The patient remains hospitalized at Sharp Memorial, he added.

 

Her identity and area of residence have not bee released. La Mesa Police attempted to talk the woman out of jumping, but were unable to prevent her actions.

MAN KILLED BY LA MESA POLICE AFTER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DISPUTE

August 20, 2011 (La Mesa) – Police officers fired multiple shots, killing a shotgun-wielding man late last night near La Mesa's downtown village  Pine Court in La Mesa remains closed until at least mid- morning today between University Avenue and Allison while authorities conduct an investigation.

August 16, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) –A Sig Alert has been issued for northbound 125 at Spring Street, where a vehicle rolled over, blocking lanes and a dog has reportedly been injured.

 

There is also a hazardous fuels spill on Highway 94 at Dulzura Café reported at 1:19 p.m.

LAST LIGHT: GALLERY SHOW AND ARTIST RECEPTION JULY 27 FEATURES WADE CLINE

 

July 24, 2011 (La Mesa) – "Last Light," the largest collection of artwork by Wade Cline will be on display at O’Dunn Fine Art in La Mesa from July 27 to August 28. In addition, the public is invited to meet the artist at a reception July 27 from 5-8 p.m.

 

Cline's oil paintings are mostly moody urban scenes of San Diego, with mid-century architecture, rainy streets, and that” low energy time right at dusk,” O’Dunn said.  Influenced by Wayne Thiebaud and Edward Hopper, Cline has exhibited at the Crocker and Barrios art galleries in Sacramento, the Pratt and La Jolla Artists' galleries in San Diego, and in "Art Alive" at the San Diego Museum of Art.

FIRE DISPLACES 7 IN LA MESA

 

July 17, 2011 (La Mesa) – A fire has displaced seven residents at a triplex located at 5055 Thorne Drive in La Mesa. Heartland Fire & Rescue in La Mesa responded to a call at 3 p.m. and found smoke pouring from one of the units.
