CITY OF LA MESA HOSTS COMMUNITY DISASTER PLANNING SEMINAR
October 19, 2023 (La Mesa) – In observance of National Preparedness Month, the City of La Mesa, in collaboration with the City’s Community Relations and Veterans Commission, Heartland Fire & Rescue, and the County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services, will host the upcoming Livable La Mesa Community Conversation. This event aims to educate La Mesa residents on creating a ‘personal disaster plan’ and effectively assisting friends and family with disabilities or unique access needs during emergencies.

April 20, 2020 (San Diego) -- To say California has had a rough stretch the last number of years in the catastrophic loss world would be an understatement. But as we continue into 2020 and head into April it’s a reminder that April is California Earthquake Preparedness Month. Organizations and fire departments can take steps to lessen and mitigate the deadly and damaging effect of earthquakes by bringing awareness to communities.
Covid-19 is on the forefront of everyone’s mind, however, we cannot forget other potential disasters that threaten our state. Earthquakes, floods and fires are just a few.

August 31, 2018 (San Diego) - San Diego County is vulnerable to many types of emergencies: fires, floods, and earthquakes just to name a few. These disasters can strike at any time, and we should all be prepared to keep ourselves, and our loved ones, safe. But a 2017 survey conducted by the County found only half of San Diego County residents are prepared to evacuate their homes within 15 minutes. Only 38 percent have an emergency plan.

“It’s not a question of if another disaster will strike, but rather when a disaster will strike San Diego County,” said County Animal Services Director Dawn Danielson. “As part of National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day, we strongly encourage people to have a plan in place that includes your pets.”
