GROCERY WORKERS VOTE OVERWHELMINGLY TO AUTHORIZE STRIKES AT RALPHS, ALBERTSONS, VONS AND PAVILIONS

March 27, 2022 (San Diego) -- United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Locals throughout California, together representing over 47,000 frontline food workers at Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions, have announced an overwhelming membership vote to authorize union leadership to call for Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strikes should that become necessary. But it’s not yet inevitable that a strike will occur.

SANTEE VONS SHOPPER IN KKK HOOD IDENTIFIED BY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

“Detectives have identified the man in the images and will continue their follow-up of the incident,” said a news release. “The Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the public for their assistance and cooperation with this incident.”

FBI AND SDPD SEEKING TIPS ON BANK ROBBER IN VONS ON EL CAJON BLVD.

August 15, 2019 (San Diego) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the individual responsible for a bank robbery. This morning around 10:30 a.m., a man entered the US Bank branch inside a Vons store at 6155 El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego.

GROCERY WORKERS VOTE “OVERWHELMINGLY” TO STRIKE

June 23, 2016 (San Diego) – Members of the United Food & Commercial Workers Union voted “overwhelmingly” for a strike Monday night, UFCW president Mickey Kasperian announced Tuesday.  No date for the strike has been set as yet by the union, which represents about 47,000 grocery workers across Southern California. 

If a settlement is not reached, the strike could affect Ralphs,Albertson’s, Vons, Safeway and Pavilion stores.

The grocery chains have sought to cut holiday pay, reduce corporate contributions to pension funds, and make new employees work longer before getting raises.

September 14, 2015 (San Diego’s East County)—Haggen, a major West Coast regional grocer, has announced plans to reorganize around its core profitable stores by filing voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company has received commitments for up to $215 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing from its existing lenders to maintain operations and the flow of merchandise to its stores during the sale process.

GROCERY WORKERS VOTE TO STRIKE: PICKETING LOCAL SUPERMARKETS COULD BEGIN THIS WEEK

August 21, 2011 (San Diego) – A grocery workers’ strike at Vons, Albertsons and Ralphs supermarkets could begin as early as this week. Union members voted overwhelmingly on Saturday to authorize leaders to call a strike, with 90% voting in favor.
