TEEN JUMPS FROM BALTIMORE BRIDGE IN LA MESA

 

August 26, 2011 (La Mesa)—An 18-year-old woman attempted suicide Wednesday by jumping off the Baltimore bridge and landing in lanes on Interstate 8.
 

“She is alive,” Lt. Bell with La Mesa Police informed East County Magazine yesterday. The patient remains hospitalized at Sharp Memorial, he added.

 

Her identity and area of residence have not bee released. La Mesa Police attempted to talk the woman out of jumping, but were unable to prevent her actions.

August 23, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Rural homeowners will pay a fire parcel fee of $90 at most, and in many cases considerably less. Statewide, the total annual fire parcel fee will average just $30 under emergency regulations approved yesterday by the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection.

SDGE SEEKS TO MOVE HEAVY TRANSPORMERS THROUGH I-8 STARTING TONIGHT

 

August 23, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Greg Fox, Chair of the Alpine Community Planning Group, has forwarded an announcement from the County Department of Public Works (DPW) advising that SDGE’s contractor, American Heavy Equipment (AHE) has submitted a moving permit application and traffic control permit request to transport seven large transformers from the San Diego Port to Bell Bluff Truck Trail (east of Alpine).

 

The truck will get onto I-8 from Greenfield Drive and will exit on Japatul Valley Road and will not be traveling through the Community of Alpine.  AHE is proposing the first move for tomorrow night (August 23, 2011). This is the first of seven roundtrip moves that will occur every two to three days apart after the initial move.

HIGH-SPEED CRASH KILLS MERCEDES DRIVER IN POWAY

August 10, 2011 (Poway)--Thomas Cantrell, III, 30, of Poway died of injuries sustained August 7th at 2:41 a.m. in an automobile accident.  According to witnesses, he was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Poway Road when he lost control of the Mercedes he was driving and skidded down an enbankment, striking trees.

 

Bystanders called 911.  Poway fire and San Diego Sheriff deputies responded, confirming death without resuscitation due to multiple blunt force injuries, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner's office.

August 10, 2011 (Poway) – Leon B. Livingston, 56, of San Diego died August 7th of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Poway. Livingston, who wore a helmet, was driving southbound on State Route 67 in Poway when the vehicle in front of him stopped suddenly and Livingston rear-ended the vehicle.

MOTORCYCLIST KILLED AFTER HITTING SEMI TRUCK IN ALPINE

August 10, 2011 (Alpine) – Robert Eugene Shy, 41, of Alpine, was driving his motorcycle eastbound on Interstate 8 west of Tavern Road August 9th at 9:18 p.m. when for unknown reasons he collided with the rear of a semi-truck.

 

Death was confirmed at the scene without medical intervention. Shy, who was divorced, resided in Alpine with his girlfriend, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office.

FIRE AT HAY BARN ALSO DAMAGED TWO HOMES IN RAMONA

August 8, 2011 (Ramona)—A fire that began at a hay storage area behind Kahoots Feed Store in the 900 block of Main Street in Ramona spread to two neighboring homes in the pre-dawn hours this morning.

 

As of late this morning, firefighters continued hosing down hay bales from the barn, which was destroyed.  Some closures of streets occurred although Highway 78 remained open, Ramona Patch.com reported.

BURNED: FIRE DISTRICT REVOKES APPROVAL FOR SDG&E ECO-SUBSTATION


Update August 8: In a meeting between SDG&E and Rural Fire Protection District representatives on Thursday, SDG&e indicated it wants a single set of rules such as for vegetation clearance and sought to be exempted from overhead water sprinklers over electrical equipment. The RFPD suggested an inert gas fire fighting agent. “In the end, what we believe will happen is that SDG&E will comply, although there will be modifications,” said member Lou Russo.
