January 21, 2012 (Santee) – The 2012 holiday season may be almost a year away, but Santee Santas are getting an early holiday gift.  The all-volunteer, non-profit organization that has been bringing the spirit of the holidays to the Santee community for more than fifty years was informed that they will be the recipients of a $1,000 cash donation from Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market.

December 26, 2011 (San Diego)--San Diego County Credit Union  (SDCCU), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution with three local East County branch offices in El Cajon, La Mesa and Santee, is collecting toys for Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego, the largest children’s hospital in California. As part of SDCCU’s second annual Winter Toy Drive, new unwrapped toys can be dropped off at any one of SDCCU’s 28 branch locations in San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties through Jan. 7, 2012.

TRACK SANTA’S FLIGHT AT NORAD’S SANTA SITE--OR ON YOUR FAVORITE SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES


December 24, 2011 (North Pole) -- For the 56th year, the U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command will be tracking the global flight of Santa Claus as he leaves the north pole and delivers presents around the world on Christmas Eve, December 24,  at www.noradsanta.com
 
This year, NORAD has gone high-tech, adding aps to track Santa via Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.  Children can also telephone Santa and fine pre-holiday games to play at the site.

EAST COUNTY RESIDENTS SERENADE MISSION VALLEY MALL

December 21, 2011 (San Diego) -- Twenty members of Women Occupy San Diego serenaded Mission Valley Mall with modified lyrics of traditional Christmas Carols to tell the message of the Occupy movement. According to Masada Disenhouse of La Mesa this will bring the Occupy message to the community at large.
 
 As another Occupier explained, “Middle Class Women are doing this so the next generation has a democracy.” She added, “this is a way to show another face of Occupy to people who have jobs.”

SHERIFF’S YOU ARE NOT ALONE PROGRAM BRIGHTENS HOLIDAYS FOR SENIORS


December 20, 2011 (San Diego) -- Senior  Volunteer  Patrol  (SVP)  members  are  making sure the season is merry and bright for seniors who live alone. They  will  be  delivering  holiday  baskets  or  hot  meals  this month to seniors enrolled in the Sheriff’s You Are Not Alone (YANA) program.
 
The program ensures daily telephone calls and a weekly visit from a Senior Volunteer Patrol team year‐ round. If no one picks up the phone during the daily calls, a welfare  check  is  also  conducted. This  is a  FREE  service  for disabled people and seniors who live by themselves within the jurisdiction of the Sheriff’s Department. To enroll, please call (858) 565‐5200.

KITTENS, CATS & DOGS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

 


December 20, 2011 (El Cajon) -- There are plenty of kittens, cats and dogs (large & small), even bunnies, all available for adoption at the El Cajon Animal Shelter. One fee includes their vaccinations, microchip, spay or neuter, as well as a visit to the vet.  In addition to adoptions, the shelter provides many services for the Cities of El Cajon and La Mesa.

Stop by and see the restored 1942 Police vehicle, law enforcement photos and displays, plus valuable safety information from both police and fire. Assemblyman Brian Jones (R-Santee) sent Assembly commendations for our award-winning writers and photographers. Santa and Mrs. Claus heard children’s Christmas wishes, while an elf handed out prizes.

Each December, La Maestra Community Health Centers and La Maestra Foundation partner to collect and distribute gifts to low-income families in communities, including nutritious food, household items, clothing and toys.
 
Beautiful Noble fir trees and Paul Ecke poinsettias will be sold in November and December to raise funds for La Maestra Foundation's community development programs and pre-orders are being taken now.

December 11, 2011 (Aguanga) -- If you’re heading out past Warner Springs towards Temecula, stop by the Ho, Ho, Ho Shop just opened at the new County Line BBQ restaurant.  The shop is open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 a.m.  The restaurant is worth a stop on its own, featuring a variety of hearty fare including game dishes such as pheasant, quail and bison burgers.

December 11, 2011 (Rolando) The community is invited to celebrate the annual Jingle Bell Kroc Community Christmas Festival at The Salvation Army Kroc Center, 6845 University Avenue (at 68th St) in San Diego, on Wednesday, December 14, from 4-8 p.m. Admission is free with donation of a new, unwrapped toy in original packaging, valued at $5 or more.

 
 
Toys will benefit the ABC 10 Toy Drive to help less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas--children who might otherwise be overlooked this year--through The Salvation Army.

PCI COMMUNITY HOLIDAY OUTREACH SERVES OVER 200 GUESTS

Global humanitarian organization served over 230 people, including 160 children, with holiday gifts and community health resources

 

December 8, 2011 (San Diego, CA) -- PCI (Project Concern International) and the Strong, Healthy Empowered (SHE) group of PCI volunteers hosted their third annual Santa party and health fair in collaboration with PCI’s California Border Healthy Start (CBHS) Program on December 7, 2011 at the Jacobs Market Creek Plaza.  Other community agencies that participated include Logan Family Health Center at Logan Heights, American Red Cross WIC, La Maestra Family Health Center at National City, and the Family Health Centers at Lemon Grove.
