FACULTY ARTWORK ON DISPLAY AT GROSSMONT COLLEGE THROUGH OCT. 28

 

October 5, 2010 (El Cajon) -- Artwork created by faculty members of the Grossmont College Art Department will be on display through Oct. 28 at the Hyde Art Gallery, located on campus. The public is invited to view the exhibition of approximately 55 pieces from 29 different art department instructors.

Hours of this traditional, family-friendly festival are Fridays from 5:00 to 10:00 PM, Saturdays from noon until 10:00 PM, and Sundays from noon until 9:00 PM.

September 17, 2010 (Julian) -- The first annual Folk Music Festival will be held in historic Julian, paired with the 24th annual Julian Art Guild Show. Both events will be held on the rustic grounds of the Menghini Winery on September 25 and 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

BOLTON DAZZLES , DELIGHTS CROWD AT VIEJAS

September 14, 2010 (Alpine)--Michael Bolton displayed the dazzling breadth of his talent in a concert at Viejas Dreamcatcher Lounge in Alpine Sunday night. His performances ranged from vintage classics by Sinatra and Gershwin to jazz and rock ‘n’ roll. Mounting a platform in the center of the audience, he sang his Grammy Award-winning version of “When a Man Loves a Woman” – much to the delight of women in the crowd.

Concerts are held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The last two concerts are September 17th with Scott Martin’s Latin Soul Band and on September 24th it’s Smoke Staxx.

HOBO CAMPFIRE SING-A-LONG SEPT. 10 IN OLD POWAY PARK

 

September 6, 2010 (Poway) -- What could feel more like the Old West than sitting around a campfire singing songs and listening to storytelling? On September 10th, the City of Poway and the Old Poway Park Action Committee will host a hobo campfire sing-along from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Old Poway Park on the banks of Rattlesnake Creek.

His newest film, The Kid: Chamaco, opens Friday for a one-week showing at the Reading Gaslamp.  “To get to the door, half the time you need to know somebody," he told me over lunch in El Cajon.

July 18, 2010 (La Mesa) – Brew-Ha-Ha’s first weekly comedy show upstairs at Gio Bistro and Wine Bar in La Mesa opened to a sold-out crowd last Sunday night. The act proved a rollicking success—artfully blending universally funny jokes with some East County-oriented punch lines.   Brew Ha Ha is the remedy for the blues--serving up light-hearted relief from tough times in an intimate yet friendly atmosphere with palate-pleasing food at Gio's.

MASTERWORKS EXHIBITION OF OIL PAINTINGS BY THE LATE STANISLAUS SOWINSKI OPENS WEDNESDAY AT O’DUNN FINE ART IN LA MESA

June 28, 2010 (La Mesa) – “This is a wonderful opportunity for art collectors,” Shannon O’Dunn, owner of O’Dunn Fine Art in La Mesa, told East County Magazine. On Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., the gallery will host a reception and opening of a month-long exhibition of masterworks by Stanislaus J. “Stan” Sowinski, who died in January at his Rancho Bernardo residence at age 82. 

 

His large-scale oil paintings and Byzantine-style icons grace the walls of many public buildings including city halls and a university, as well as corporate headquarters, restaurants, and prominent churches.
