September 4, 2011 (San Diego) – From classical chamber music to jazz pianos, a free concert series offered by San Diego State University’s School of Music and Dance has appeal to a wide range of music lovers. The concerts are free and open to the public, as well as to students, faculty and staff.

August 1, 2011 (Lemon Grove)--The Lemon Grove Historical Society will prevent “a hilarious 19th century melodrama adopted to Lemon Grove, California,” says Helen Ofield, president of the organization. “He Ain’t Done Right By Nell” is set in 1906 in the heydey of the town's citrus packing industry.  Seven showings will be held from September 16 to September 25.

August 18, 2011 (El Cajon) – “7 Galleries~1 Evening” will be held this Friday, August 19 from 5-8 p.m. “Come and join us for a fun, short 1/2 block walk, full of Art, champagne, wine, hors d'oeuvres and a "Downtown Gallery Walk" passport full of prizes,” says Lynn Endicott, owner of Silver Creek Fine Art Gallery.

August 11, 2011 (El Cajon) - Meet artist Daniel Ketelhut at the Main Street 5 Gallery in El Cajon on Friday, August 12 from 5-9 p.m.

August 6, 2011 (Alpine)--The Ultimate Music Challenge is a cover band contest held in the DreamCatcher Lounge at Viejas Casino. The competition will be held every Sunday night from August 14th through October 23rd, from 6pm-10pm. Three lucky winners will take home a total of $40,000.

July 7, 2011 (Alpine) -- During the months of July and August, Alpine Community Centers Concerts will present the following  concert events on Sunday summer eves from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.:

July 24, 2011 (La Mesa) – "Last Light," the largest collection of artwork by Wade Cline will be on display at O’Dunn Fine Art in La Mesa from July 27 to August 28. In addition, the public is invited to meet the artist at a reception July 27 from 5-8 p.m.

Cline's oil paintings are mostly moody urban scenes of San Diego, with mid-century architecture, rainy streets, and that” low energy time right at dusk,” O’Dunn said.  Influenced by Wayne Thiebaud and Edward Hopper, Cline has exhibited at the Crocker and Barrios art galleries in Sacramento, the Pratt and La Jolla Artists' galleries in San Diego, and in "Art Alive" at the San Diego Museum of Art.  

July 19, 2011 (El Cajon) – Country music superstar Tanya Tucker will perform two shows on Saturday, July 23 at 6 and 8:30 p.m. at Sycuan Casino’s Showcase Theater.

Voted the Country Music Association’s female vocalist of the year in 1991, she had eight consecutive singles reach the Top 10 charts including “Down to My Last Teardrop,” “(Without You) What Do I Do With Me” and “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane.”

July 16, 2011 (San Diego) -- On July 24, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Renowned local storytellers Mary Holma and Cynthia Griffin will be spinning Native American Folklore Tales on July 24 from 3-4 p.m. in the  Visitor Center Theater at  Mission Trails Regional Park with their program "Whispers In The Wind."

July 15, 2011 (El Cajon) –Artists’ demonstrations, live music, giveaways, food and drinks are all part of a Gallery Walk event set for Friday, July 15 from 5-8 p.m. in downtown El Cajon.  The public is invited to participate in the free art walk to help support local artists at eight participating galleries. In addition, many downtown shops and restaurants are offering discounts for the evening.

July 8, 2011 (San Diego) - Native American Flute Players will perform this Sunday, July 10 from 1-3 p.m. at Mission Trails Regional Park.  The group of 4-9 volunteers practice on a variety of flutes in the amphitheater on the Visitor Center's back terrace from 1 to 3:00 pm on the second Sunday of each month.

July 5, 2011 (Lemon Grove) -- The Lemon Grove Historical Society will hold open casting calls on July 10th and 11th from 6:00p.m. until 9p.m. in the H. Lee House Cultural Center, 3205 Olive, Lemon Grove. The play will be the amusing, 19th century melodrama, "He Ain't Done Right by Nell."
