March 17, 2012 (El Cajon) – The Olaf Wieghorst Museum is hosting its 2012 Round Up Country Fair at the Elk’s Lodge, 1400 E. Washington Avenue, El Cajon beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Olaf Wieghorst (1899-1988) was one of the foremost western artists of the 20th Century, earning him the title "Dean of Western Artists." 

March 13, 2012 (Potrero) – After many years, the San Diego County Park system has agreed to make part of the Potrero Regional Park a community park.  There will be a celebration of the community park on March 24 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome and access is free.

March 1, 2012 (San Diego) – If you care about the future of our region, come join a grassroots movement and discussion to shape the energy, water, transportation and food policies of tomorrow.  Should we be investing in rooftop solar or wind farms?  Algae-based fuels or offshore drilling? February 23, 2012 (San Diego) –Stargazer and trail guide George Varga will lead a stargazing party at Mission Trails Regional Park on February 25 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Participants at the event, four days after the New Moon, can expect to view deep sky objects such as the Orion Nebula, the Crab Nebula in Taurus and much more. The Crab Nebula (photo, left) is the result of a supernova that occurred in 1054 AD and was recorded by Chinese observers.

They join a long list of distinguished national and international presenters and panelists, including keynote speaker Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

February 18, 2012 (San Diego) -- The 41st annual American Indian Pow-Wow will be held on March 17 at San Diego State University.

This free event, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the San Diego State Alumni Association, Viejas Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and the SDSU President's Leadership Fund.

Gourd dancing begins at 11 a.m. with a grand procession at 12 noon at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center.
