October 23, 2010 (El Cajon) – Camp Bow-Wow invites you and your dog to celebrate Halloween early at “Yappy Hour” on Thursday, October 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Downtown Café. “Bring your pup or pups in costume and win some great prizes,” a press release for the event states. “We will be judging most creative, funniest and owner/pup best duos—so you two-legged folks, come dressed up as well.”

VIEJAS OUTLET CENTER OFFERS A SAFE ALTERNATIVE TO TRICK-OR-TREAT ON THE STREET THIS HALLOWEEN

 

October 21, 2010 (Alpine) – Viejas Outlet Center is once again offering a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.  Stores will welcome little ghosts, goblins and parents to participate in this free family event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 31.

BOO! PARADE TO HAUNT COLLEGE AREA ON SATURDAY, OCT. 23

October 22, 2010 (San Diego)--The Boulevard BOO! Parade travels through the College Area near San Diego State University starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010.  Guests are invited to watch the parade of floats, costumed coeds and community members.  Visitors  can also enjoy carnival rides, vendors, and new this year--a haunted pumpkin patch.

ASID KITCHEN TOUR SERVES UP 9 SAVORY REMODELS OCT. 23

 

October 20, 2010 (San Diego) -- The American Society of Interior Designers’ self-guided Kitchen Tour, set for Saturday, Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will showcase nine  remodeled kitchens in San Diego County designed by some of the top designers in the region.

 

Tour sites include three in San Diego's inland regions (La Mesa, Rancho Bernardo and Poway), as well as San Diego, La Jolla, Carlsbad and Vista.

The “cruise” will begin at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, motor along scenic Historic Highways 94 and 80, then end with special activities at a fundraising event at Gio’s in La Mesa Village from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

LIVE IN THE VINES: ORFILA PRESENTS JAZZ CONCERT

October 8, 2010 (San Pasqual) – Orfila Vineyards presents “Concert in the Vines” on October17 from 6:30 to 8:30. The concert features the Spirit Wind jazz ensemble with international artist Adrienne Nims.

 

Tickets for the outdoor concert on a pavilion overlooking the vineyards cost $20 each (or $15 for Orfila Wine Lovers – OWL – members) and include a glass of wine.

October 8, 2010 (El Cajon) -- The Grossmont College Theatre Arts Department will present Tin, written and directed by Jerry Hager, October 22 & 23 at 7:30 p.m. and October 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stagehouse Theatre. All tickets for this event are $6 each. The story, Tin, is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Steadfast Tin Soldier, an adventurous tale in which toys come to life in the shadows of night.

EL CAJON ANIMAL SHELTER HOSTS OPEN HOUSE & DOG COSTUME CONTEST OCT. 23

 

The public is invited to the Fourth Annual El Cajon Animal Shelter Open House on Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1275 North Marshall Avenue. This family Halloween- themed event includes displays and activities, such as photos of your pet for $5. A low-cost rabies clinic and micro chipping I.D.’s for pets will be offered, plus “late fees” on licenses will be waived for El Cajon residents. Tour the shelter to see dogs and cats available for adoption.

 

As a special treat there, a Halloween Costume contest for dogs will include prizes for winners; contest starts at 1 pm.

October 6, 2010 (Rancho San Diego) -- Join Ranger Lisa, and BLM’s Biologist Joyce, a bat expert, in watching a short bat movie, and take a bat hike with bat-sensing equipment on October 22 from 6-7 p.m.. Families are encouraged to attend, and also get to know their local National Wildlife Refuge in Rancho San Diego--the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
