March 10, 2020 (Los Angeles) -- Today, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and other agencies were honored for their response to the Chabad of Poway shooting by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) during an awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
 
"The Helene and Joseph Sherwood Prize for Combating Hate" is given by ADL to recognize law enforcement for its work in fighting hate and bigotry. It is considered one of the most prestigious awards given to the law enforcement community.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED IN "OUR PLANET, OUR HOME" K-12 ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY AND ART CONTEST

October 21, 2012 (La Mesa) -- Not only does their creativity bring a smile, but the breadth of ideas, ages and techniques will make a lovely, rounded exhibition. It is exciting each year to see what the students will come up with for the "Our Home, Our Planet" K-12 Environmental Literacy and Art contest. 

Awards will be handed out by Mayor Art Madrid on the Festival Stage of the "Sustain La Mesa" Environmental Festival at 10:00 a.m. on October 27 at Harry Griffen Park.

SOMALI FAMILY SERVICES SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR COMMUNITY AWARDS

 

June 2, 2012 (San Diego) -  The Somali Family Service (SFS) is gearing up for their second Annual OceanLeaf Awards Celebration and is now accepting nominations.
 
San Diego is home to the nation’s second largest Somali refugee population of more than 35,000 individuals. For over a decade, the SFS of San Diego has been working hard to serve this emerging East African community, seeing it progress educationally, economically and socially.

ALPINE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO HONOR LOCAL HEROES IN LIFESAVING EFFORT ON MAY 15

 

May 10, 2012 (Alpine) -- The Alpine Fire Protection District, along with San Diego Project Heartbeat will honor two local residents for their heroic efforts in saving the life of a fellow resident who went into cardiac arrest while jogging on Victoria drive in early April.

May 7, 2012 (San Diego)—The  Ramona Valley Wine Region has proved to be a tough contender amongst some of the world’s best wines. Last month, an estimated 180 people witnessed three Ramona wines defeat the French in the French American Wine Challenge, a blind-tasting held at Fifty Seven Degrees wine bar in Mission Hills.

April 13, 2012 ( San Diego) -- Author of the popular, "Maisie Dobbs" series, Jacqueline Winspear will be the guest of the La Mesa-El Cajon Branch of the American Association of University Women at their 11th annual luncheon on April 21st.  Ms. Winspear has won praise from the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Associated Press and the San Francisco Chronicle; to name a few.  She is the winner of the Agatha, Alex and Macavity Awards.

VIEJAS HELPS BRING HISTORY TO LIFE IN EL CAJON

 

 

 

June 2, 2011 (El Cajon) -- For the first time ever, historical characters in period costumes will present awards to winning essay writers at the El Cajon Historical Society's 30th annual Third Grade Essay Contest in El Cajon!  The award program is Monday, June 6th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Community Center, 195 E. Douglas Avenue.  Winning third grade students will receive trophies and cash.
