AZTECS TO TACKLE COUGARS IN POINSETTIA GAME THURSDAY AT QUALCOMM

December 19, 2012 (San Diego) – Tomorrow night’s Poinsettia Bowl game between the San Diego State University Aztecs and the Brigham Young University Cougars will be the 36th meeting between the two teams—and the first since BYU’s final season in the Mountain West in 2010.

Kick-off sis at 5 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium for this year’s Poinsettia Bowl, sponsored by the San Diego County Credit Union.

December 17, 2012 (El Cajon) —Just like all of her classmates, Brittany Wnek grew up going to school, participating in a variety of school activities and sports -- just being an everyday kid.

SPORTSPLEX USA DONATES $1410 TO SANTEE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION

November 15, 2012 (Santee) – On October 29, Sportsplex USA will made a donation to the Santee School District Foundation in the amount of $1410.00.  Sportsplex USA and the Santee School District Foundation (SSDF) have partnered with the goal of offering affordable recreational youth indoor soccer programs to all parents and children in Santee.  Since the partnership with the SSDF began in January, 2012, Sportsplex USA has donated $4,510 to the Foundation after three successful youth recreational soccer seasons.

October 9, 2012 (Tampa Bay, Florida) -- Despite increasing awareness about concussion dangers for young athletes, a new national survey reveals 90% of men who played tackle football at the high school level or higher who suffered or suspected they suffered a concussion want their sons to play tackle football.  Not only that, nearly half (43%) believe there is too much hype over concussions.

“PAINT THE TOWN RED” FOR SDSU HOMECOMING WEEK- OCT. 10-12

October 2, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)--Keller Williams Realty El Cajon will be a "Gold Sponsor" for the upcoming "Roy Richards Recovery Fund" golf tournament being held on Friday October 5 at the Carlton Oaks Golf Course in Santee. The office is helping to raise funds to help Richards recover from a life-threatening accident that resulted in a skull fracture with major brain injuries. He also suffered a broken rib and broken nose.

Only one team would come out of Friday night’s non-conference game victorious. And on this night, passing proved to be the difference.  Behind by 24 unanswered points in the second half, Valhalla’s Norsemen surged forward  to defeat the Mount Miguel Matadors 31-24.

YOUTH BASKETBALL CAMP OFFERED AT GROSSMONT COLLEGE, AUGUST 6-9

 
July 31, 2012 (El Cajon) -- The Grossmont College Athletics Dept. and Grossmont College men’s basketball coach Doug Weber are inviting all boys and girls entering the 3rd through 9th grades to Grossmont College’s annual youth summer basketball camp, from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday, Aug. 6-9.

The camp will feature instruction on fundamental skills, group and individual contests and three-on-three tournaments, along with life lessons about sportsmanship, communication and goal setting. Cost is $75 per camper, which includes t-shirt, contest prizes and giveaways.

July 14, 2012 (Escondido)  – The Escondido Police Officer’s Association has announced that their annual “Cops for Kids” golf tournament will be rededicated as the Cadet Luis Romero Memorial Golf Tournament, to be hosted at the Vineyard at Escondido Golf Course on Monday, July 16 at 1 p.m. The event celebrates Luis “Frank” Romero, an aspiring law enforcement officer who succumbed to a Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumor earlier this year at the age of 18.

Two-time Olympian race walker a mentor to next generation of athletes
 
July 6, 2012 (El Cajon) -- Cuyamaca College cross-country coach Tim Seaman, a two-time Olympian race walker, will be traveling to the Games in London, but this time it will be as a coach instead of as a competitor.

Athletes competing in the  men’s 20,000-meter race walk at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Oregon last week included, from left, Tyler Sorensen;  Cuyamaca College graduate Nick Christie; Cuyamaca College cross country coach Tim Seaman, and the winner of the 12-man race and the lone qualifier for the London Games, Trevor Barron.  Seaman, who has competed twice in the Olympics, is the coach for these three young athletes.

Prepares for Longest Off Road Race in United States 
 
June 21, 2012 (El Cajon) -- When the Johnson name is mentioned in racing today it's hard not to think of 5-time NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson. But for Jimmie and younger brother Jarit racing began in the deserts of Southern California and Baja Mexico racing off-road. Nearly every weekend was spent either driving off road race cars or working around the sport in some way.
