Flu Vaccine Recommended for Everyone

September 25, 2011 (San Diego) -- Last season, there were 24 influenza-related deaths in San Diego County, the second highest total ever reported in our region. The record was established during the 2009-10 season—the height of H1N1—when 58 flu-related deaths were reported locally. Prior to that, the highest number of influenza deaths—22—was reported during the 2003-04 flu season.

September 24, 2011 (El Cajon) -- It’s Monster Truck Madness at the next Cajon Classic Cruise, Wednesday, September 28.  The Classic Cruise will run every Wednesday night through October 26, with a special Holiday Parade of Lights Show on December 7, 2011.

This free event is located on East Main Street at the Prescott Promenade, just east of Magnolia Avenue.

September 24, 2011 (La Mesa) – A robbery suspect is in custody thanks to a citizen who heard a woman screaming near the La Mesa Trolley station and flagged down police.

September 25, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – A warrant sweep conducted by Sheriff’s deputies yesterday has led to the arrest of 33 fugitives. The 7-hour operation, conducted by the Sheriff’s Court Services Department Field Unit and San Diego Fugitive Task Force, included the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa and Santee as well as unincorporated portions of the County in Alpine, El Cajon and Lakeside.

September 23, 2011 (Alpine) – A proposed 150-room hotel adjacent to the Viejas Casino would be “great for our guests and great for the community,” said Viejas public affairs director Robert Scheid at last night’s Alpine Community Planning Group meeting. The $36 million project would generate 450 construction jobs and upon completion, 45 employees at the hotel, said Scheid.
