SUSPECT IN ALVARADO AREA PHARMACY STABBING IS FATALLY SHOT BY SAN DIEGO POLICE OFFICER IN CREST

Update January 20, 2023: The victim has been identified as Mary Ellen Carter, 66, of Lakeside. The shooting suspect was Frank Bower, pharmacist.   The officers involved in the shooting were  Officers Salvador Laurel-Torres and Robert Raynor.  Officers Laurel-Torres and Raynor have been employed with the San Diego Police Department for seven years. Both officers are currently assigned to Eastern Division. As in all officer-involved shootings, the officers in this case are currently on administrative assignment until cleared to return to full duty.

January 18, 2023 (San Diego’s East County) – A man suspected of fatally stabbing a woman at a pharmacy in the College area was shot and killed by San Diego Police at a home in Crest yesterday.

COLLEGE AREA ROBBER POSED AS TICKET SELLER

March 17, 2018 (San Diego) – San Diego State University campus police have issued an alert following a robbery that occurred yesterday at 11:05 a.m. in the east alley of 5100 College Avenue.  The suspect offered to sell basketball tickets to the victim, but instead reportedly stole the victim’s money.

PIT BULLS WHO ATTACKED ELDERLY MAN REMAIN ON LOOSE IN COLLEGE AREA

 

 

Update January 9, 2018:  The dogs have been found and taken into custody by County Animal Control. No further details have been released pending investigation.

January 8, 2018 (San Diego) – A man in his 70s was attacked by two pit bulls last night around 6 p.m. in the 6200 block of El Cajon Boulevard near San Diego State University.

The man suffered non-life threatening bites to his arms and legs and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Patrons of a barber shop assisted the victim. The bites were deep enough to expose bone,  10 News reports.

February 16, 2017 (San Diego) -- Detectives and Crime Suppression Team Deputies from the Sheriff's Alpine Station, with the assistance of the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail, served a search warrant at 5090 College Ave. #5 in San Diego this afternoon. Deputies from the Special Enforcement Detail (SED) served the search warrant, since the occupants were believed to be armed with firearms and selling narcotics.

FBI AND SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEK PUBLIC'S ASSISTANCE TO IDENTIFY CHASE BANK ROBBER IN COLLEGE AREA

 

September 26, 2013 (San Diego) -- The FBI and San Diego Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the unknown man responsible for robbing the Chase Bank, 4627 College Avenue, San Diego, on Wednesday, September 25,

The robber entered the bank around 5:42 p.m. and presented the teller with a demand note.  After receiving an undisclosed sum of money, he walked out.

Witnesses describe the robber as Hispanic, approximately 30 years old, 5 feet 3 inches tall with a medium build.  He had a mustache and wore a dark jacket, dark baseball cap, sunglasses and light-colored shoes.

MAN SUFFERS BRAIN INJURY, BROKEN LEG FROM FELONY HIT-AND-RUN IN COLLEGE AREA

 

July 18, 2010 (San Diego) – A 65-year-old man was found lying in the street in the 6300 block of Alvarado Road at midnight, after being run over by a car. The 57-year old driver later returned to the scene and told officers she may have struck something. Investigation confirmed she had hit the pedestrian. Police report that the accident was alcohol-related.
